Another plea for an 'idiot' key

Dear all

I just accidentally bought a Fer-de-lance when browsing ships. One click and . . 'Ah, you've signed the contract? Thank YOU. What, you want your old ship back? No-can-do, I'm afraid. .'

How about an 'are you sure'? I'd appreciate it - and so might others.

PS: When playing the original Elite I always did want a Fer-de-lance. But still . .

Those dodgy used-ship-salesmen on Isinor are not to be trusted. :x

I bet if you peel the sticker off, it's actually a fur-be-dance, and comes with a free rear view mirror furry trumble.

Good idea about the confirmation though. +1

Yeah, to add to the "atmosphere", maybe we could treat it like a showroom type thing - when you select your ship it takes you to the next screen which is an offer to buy upgrades (say a random selection of the available, meaning you might not get offered anything) at a slightly discounted price (ie, a bit less that they're priced in F3), a bit like sellers now trying to tempt a few extra quid from you to get the air con and chromed wheels etc. "I'm sure you'll be happy w/ your Vampire, sir. Could we tempt you w/ an extra energy unit for only 350Credits...?"
at this point you can add, buy the ship, or cancel out.

I did this once as well  The solution...just quit the game by closing the whole window. When you re-start you are back at your previous save.

Dear K. Wolf

Yes, one can do that. But then one loses what one has accomplished in that game. Still, that's not so bad.

Thats why it's a good idea to save before buying a new ship. Of course this only works if the ship you want to buy is at a main station!

Dear Mr Wolf

You mean you've fixed/changed it in trunk?

Oh yes! Thanks, KW.

I suppose it's down to the way you play...I tend to do a quick-save at every station, so very regularly in other words. Therefore any accident/disaster doesn't cost much in terms of lost game.
Having said that I have accidentally bought an un-wanted ship before now  , and an 'Are you sure?' prompt or something would be good. As JazHaz has suggested above, I have got into the habit of saving even if I'm just going to have a look in the Ship Market, just in case.

Good idea, but not only for buying ships. I mainly have problems in combat that I sometimes shoot the good guys. So I also like to have a conformation box in combat. Probably every time you hit a ship, open a conformation box with the ships stats and the question: Do you really want to shoot this ship? (Y/N)

As well as being silly that would be Soooo annoying.
How about a laser disabler? You could program it to disable the laser if you have say a police vessel in your sights to avoid accidents. Or set to disable for any 'Clean' ship if you're a paragon of virtue like me

UK_eliter -

to me this reads as Killerwolf meant replacing Dear Mr- Killer Wolf with Dear Mr. Smivs, because you referred to Smivs' post.

So not sorted as in "fixed in trunk".

Dear Snork

You are right. I did reply to the wrong person, and consequently I did misunderstand Killer Wolf's use of the word 'sorted'.

PS: Frankly, I find this whole 'online name' thing hard to get used to - although I do see the point of it; and I suppose that the institution of having online names is not to blame for my having replied to the wrong person.

How about whenever making it so whenever you hear classical music you start convulsing and having involuntary muscle spasms rendering you incapable flying the ship much less firing the laser? Just make sure your ship comes equipped with an Ootunes MP10 player and an extensive catalog of Johan Strauss.

That's fine providing Pirates can be equipped with a Bounty Checker Jammer and appear Clean even as they tear a new hole in your Iron Ass...
