Oolite review

Oolite got reviewed in NAG Online, one of South Africa's main computer gaming magazines. Here is the review:
http://www.nag.co.za/2010/09/review-oolite/

This could maybe be related with yesterday's spike of ~7700 downloads on Berlios. Some of the comments in the review made me blush - honest!

Well researched review and to the point. Shows the excellent work that everyone is doing here!

Yes, and to be more accurate, it is 7,745 in one day, according to Berlios statistics.

Me suspects the author of that review is a member and contributor on this forum.
Now, who could it be:

Good review though, and I also suspect we might see a rush of new members here soon.

Great review.

There are sharing buttons at the end of the review for Twitter, Facebook etc, I suggest we use them!

Very nice!

And also the redesign of www.oolite.org pays. It's really good that the link at the end of the review goes to a page that pleases the eye! :D

Oolite’s main drawback is that it has no multiplayer...
:snort:
That's not a drawback, that's a strength! No powergaming, cheating greifers to bother with, huzzah! He can go play WoW if he wants to put up with that crap.

Other than that, awesome review. :)

While I tend to agree with your sentiment generally Wyvern, I DO wish Oolite had a built-in IRC client that could connect to a common channel for pilots. I enjoy social-gaming and played a MMORPG for over 8 years (no longer do). I'm not after the multi-gamer experience, but social interaction is always a plus to me.

Well Cmd. Cheryd, this could be nice and personally I like the idea of a built-in mIRC-like chat. It could keep away the sense of emptiness of void space.
More a Space Trucker feeling, do you saw the movie?

Wow, nice review! :)

Thanks for spotting that review A_C, it's definitely made my day, and I'm pretty sure it made many OXP makers' day too! :D

It's a shame that the reviewer doesn't point out that one of the big changes is the non-player-centric nature of Oolite.

For me that's probably the most significant thing about the game over its forefather...

That aspect of the original Elite is actually lost in the hazy shades of my forgiving memory... and in my imagination its universe bristled with life just the same ;-)
