A plea about trumbles

Dear all
In the absence of de-trumbulator machines, being able to eject trumbles, being able to poison them with certain cargo, or other methods of deliverance (hint: some such methods - over and above the usual, involved one, might be a good idea!), the current test version of Oolite - or that version (1.74.1) plus trumble-attributing OXPs - seems unfairly profligate with our furry friends. (And I saw a particularly ugly one today!) It seems that something like every ninth pod is a trumble. And that, I suggest, is too much!

And that is precisely the reason why I didn't install that particular OXP in the first place although I am really intrigued by what it offers. Just not by trumbles. Not at all.

Roles and probabilities are very easy to adjust in shipdata.plist files

Ah, ok, thanks Thargoid: I'll look into that. But I thought others might feel as I do. . (Still: I am sure I should have better things to worry about!)

<outrageous suggestion>
You could even remove the trumblepod completely from the OXP in question.
</outrageous suggestion>

People might like to know that the two OXPs that, to my knowledge, add trumbles ( - though the core game itself adds troubles too, I think) are: pods and pods-ups. Those OXPs contain, in their shipdata.plist files, lines that specify the probability of a scooped pod being a 'trumble pod'.
But - what's this? - a search of my OXPs for the word 'trumble' reveals, within the UPS-Courier OXP, this string: 'ups_trumble_repellant'.
How can I get this? Can anyone enlighten me (and thereby save me grubbing around in the scripts / trying things out)? Must I deliver some parcels?

A trumble-repellant (or any alternative way of removing trumbles) was suggested and mused upon on these boards. However, Oolite's code deliberately doesn't provide a mechanism to remove trumbles by script, therefore the question was (and is) moot. As are all provisions which had been sneaked into OXPs already in order to dress up the (non-existent, I repeat) script-line player.ship.removeTrumble(); with some technobabble.
So, no trumble-repellant can be provided by any OXP.

Well, maybe someone will eventually create specifically 'defective' life maintenance systems...
If such an oxp is ever developed, I hope that kind of equipment will only be made available after the players manage to successfully deal with their first trumble all by themselves...

maybe we should have an OXP where by if you dock at a world inhabited by (say) reptiles, you can sell all your trumbles at a pretty good price as food ~ a rare delicacy for them.

Pods/Pods-UPS aren't the only OXPs that can land you with a trumble, although they are the most prominent...
And yes, it's by design. Who says an OXP must provide only good stuff? A little balance in the Ooniverse never hurts, and trumbles aren't that difficult to erradicate.

It is only offered to people in big need of the repellant. So you must have a minimum number trumbles already. The idea of the salesman is that you are prepared to pay any price at that moment for anything that might help.
And there are at least two more oxp's that add trumble pods. But for those, the pods contain a trumble picture making it possible to avoid scooping them. And even when you scoop them, there is only a 25% change of getting infected. The idea here is not give trumbles to the player, but just spread the fear of scooping them.

I came on this page expecting to see something like:
For only 1Cr a day you can sponsor a Lavian Trumble in need...
Your donations can help a Trumble out of poverty, and open the doors to a better life.
Trumbles are people too!
Save the Trumbles today, and get a free hat!
Etcetera.

That's a plea
for trumbles. And if trumbles are people, then I've been behaving very badly. (Which prompts at idea: if a player destroys more than a certain amount of trumbles, then some uber-trumble could be sent after him/her! A 'Trumbles' Revenge' OXP. Flame-grill
this, sucker!)

Something like
this mother of all trumbles?

IIRC my wrex.oxp also adds trumblepods... just a very small chance though, and they are recognisably trumblepods.
Trumbles... it starts with a single one, so cute.
But eveyone knows the
authorities outlaw them for a reason...right?
Right.
Because as soon as they get loose on a station, or Thargoid forbid an agri planet,
extreme measures are needed.
