OK, that may take some time but I'll get onto it as soon as I can.
Trouble is I've got a football match to watch at 3.00 (C'mon England!), but once we've lost on penalties again I'll start to have a look.

That match starts only in an hour from now. And start of the penalties will be 2 hours later. So you still have three full hours to do some testing before the penalties start. And because my nationality is still German, Ill support the flag on the right on this matter. (Only with a Dutch versus Germany match I won't be able to choose sides)

Going ever further off topic I know, but on a serious note this is probably the best match of the competition so far...two potentially really good teams, with some history. So I'll be watching the whole thing, painful as that may be.

I'm just amazed that nobody - players, coaches, media, fans - are aware of the FIFA directive that the ball has to be at least 6 feet over the line for it to count as a goal

With defending like that, we deserved to lose. And yes, Germany were the better team

Can you imagine how mind-numbingly outraged we'd all be if THAT GOAL actually mattered?

I'm so glad it didn't in the end because you'd be mindnumbingly outraged for a very good reason! But since The Sun's headline doesn't spew any poison I think we're good

Well played the forward half of England. The back half was obviously out to lunch - which was great for Germany!! Deutschland schiesst ein Tor, Deutschland schiesst ein Too-oo-ooor!!


@Steve: couldn't take your word for it, sorry mate, so I looked it up from the horses' mouth, as it were. From the FIFA website, FIFA official rules of the game:

Fifa Rules, Law 10 - The Method of Scoring (pg30) wrote:

A goal is scored when the whole of the ball passes over the goal line, between the goalposts and under the crossbar, provided that no infringement of the Laws of the Game has been committed previously by the team scoring the goal.

I'd be interested to know what your source is for the "6' rule".

I'm just really really glad Germany didn't win with a goal-difference of 1 goal, otherwise that'd have been a very shallow victory. As it is it's debatable whether that ruling knocked the wind out of the English side.

I think the 6' rule was suggested as the only possibly explanation for that goal not actually being a goal (I was in the supermarket when it happened - it was very very quiet!) but have watched the replay many, many times.
