Oolite's eSpeak female voice

Post by another_commander »

It seems that there are quite a few users (myself included), who think that the female voice produced by the eSpeak speech synthesis library we use on Windows and Linux, sounds a bit like Hal's Mother in Law. If anyone would be interested to try, I would like to have some opinions on a slight modification to that voice. It still does not sound fully human, but I would consider it a step up compared to the original and I guess it could be further adjusted with a bit more tweaking.

Paste the below in a file called f2 and put this file inside the oolite.app\Resources\espeak-data\voices\!v folder. Best if you take a backup of the file called f2 that is already residing there. Then run Oolite, activate speech with the female voice and play around a bit. Then let us know how it sounds like.

Contents of the f2 file:

Changes to original voice: 1) It does not scream at you, 2) it is a bit more whispery, 3) pitch is slightly higher and 4) at least to me, it sounds calmer than before.
