I know we all complain that RL sucks up too much of our Oolite time, but it does have it's compensations.
I was pleased and privileged to meet up with a forum member for the first time ever today by happy chance, and it was as if we'd known each other for years, which, I guess we have, courtesy of this bb.
We only had half an hour to chat, but it was fun to share a pint! Cheers, Daddyhoggy!
Beat you to the blog entry by the way.
Cheers,
Drew.

How did you guys find out you were fellow Ooliteers?

Daddyhoggy joined the forum a few months after me back in 2006. He was one of my most helpful proofreaders and critics of the original 'Status Quo'.
Cheers,
Drew.

And one of the first to buy it when you released it via CafePress - it sits proudly amongst my other SF books.
You did indeed beat me to a blog! But I've only just got back from my evening out.
'Twas great to meet up.

No, I meant: how did you recognize each other as a fellow Ooliteer in real life when you bumped into each other? I surmise DaddyHoggy is not really a big black bird in real life....

“Meet up with” isn’t quite the same as “bump into”.

Unless you're somewhat clumsy...

It was arranged in advance via the wonders of email and facebook messaging.
And no, he doesn't look like large avian in real life!
Cheers,
Drew.

Real life is a constant source of disappointment. :-(

well he'd obviously be in disguise if he's out amongst humans, wouldn't he?

My mobile Holo-emitter and universal translator worked perfectly during the encounter.

I would say occasional rather than constant, personally

Well, maybe. Continual rather than continuous.

Don't be so hard on yourself - the English on this forum is so good I often forget just how many non-native English speakers we have. You put all us lazy Brits to shame. (although I have tried to learn to speak French and German several times after my disastrous time with these languages at school - even paying for private lessons - but I just don't seem to have an ear for it - that's basically a lame excuse I know - but unlike many of my countrymen I am genuinely ashamed of my nations inability to speak other languages)
