Oh my god

I've just taken-on Thargoids in witchspace that were scoring multiple hits on me. I could see the laser fire, but I couldn't see them!

Oolite v1.73.4. Galaxy 2, rated dangerous.

Any advice?

Newbee-ish - love this game.

do you have an ATI/AMD graphics card and the griff_normalmapped oxp installed? i remember a few posts a few weeks or so ago about oxp ships appearing completely black and untextured due to a shader bug in that and other oxp's and ATI's newer drivers.

I have an ATI graphics card but no OXPs.

I am not a programmer, just a lowly games payer.

I don't know how to download OXPs. I can't even open my add-ons folder.

Hi masona2

Can you tell us which ATI card, and more importantly, which Catalyst version?
This can be found in the ATI control panel (Catalyst Control Center) information center, on the Graphics Software tab.

Someone else will tell you how to sort out OXPs... I can't explain that too clearly at the moment (I've had a couple of drinks, tonight).

Oh, and welcome.

Hi

Don't know how to access the ATI control panel (sorry).

But its a radeon express 1150.

By the way, this problem has never happened before when I've gone into witchspace.

(I too have had a couple of drinks, and a very painfull wisdom tooth removed.)

Yeah, I know about having wisdom teeth removed… I’ve had all four out over the years.

Right, your ATI graphics card is an onboard type for a notebook, I think, and quite old. It may well struggle with some of Oolite, but if you can at least play the game, then great. It may be the problem… I am not an expert on on-board graphics (I know more about component cards), but another member may well be.

This is a very friendly and helpful forum, and any question you have, no matter how basic… don’t be afraid to ask.

Thanks, El Viejo

I know it's an old graphics card. I've read lots of posts on the internet from people who have had mega problems with this card.

Damn for my GFORCE graphics card in my PC (in which my power pack blew up) hence why my wife surprised me with a new to me laptop. Which yes, was old.

Are you running Oolite from a disk image .dmg file?
If so, you need to copy/save it to another location, then the AddOns folder will be accessible

Hi masona2!

Are you sure you don't have any OXPs installed? The only invisible Thargoid known to man is from Second Wave.oxp. And I can't think of a reason why in the vanilla game single Thargoids (or all Thargoids) should be invisible, while all other ships are visible.

.dmg is the file extension, and yes, this might only apply to AppleMacintosh OS
