"Pathetic earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void,
without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here.
If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe,
anything at all, you would've hidden from it in terror.

But fear not, puny lifeforms.
My immortal minions shall sweep across the universe and
devour each and every occurence of mankind.
For S.H.O.D.A.N. has returned."

Greetings!
Finally got meself re-gistered here.
And hello.

I played Elite back in the 80s often with a friend, him being the
pilot ( joystick only ) and me being the 5 other people you need to
sucessfully manage a spacefreighter. ( keys only )
°grins° especially the E-Bomb-key was used pretty much on every
trip, the commodity has to be protected after all.

A few years ago, i saw oolite for the first time, but merely
glanced at it from the distance. Now im on fire! I downloaded
pretty much everything there is and even threw close to all OXPs
into the addonfolder... A thing i soon regretted.
Was i once, on my C<64 the unbeatable god with my single
military laser, now, with all those new things, well....

I use now a personal computer, intel, dual core with win xp and
some more geekish stuff i cant remember. And to my surprise,
Ooloite compiled almost instantly :) A thing i was surprised to see
frankly, too often in the time i have internet ( lol and behold! [sic]
thats not even ten years now ), i downloaded the occasional
sourcepackage from a game i was intersted in and it always was
a pain in the... arm, it almost never worked with the compiling.

Not that i am a programmer, nor have i a very good understanding
of how that all works... have i? °ponders° no. anyways...

I am old though ( dont ask ) and intelligent ( again, dont ask °winks° ).
i can say the first without blushing and the second without
delusions of grandeur. I got into modding games the time i bought
a copy of "pool of radiance" for the C<64.
( a roleplaying game in the AD&D-universe ).

And since then, even though i never have published any mod
( because thats not what its about for me ), i jump into games and
try to get behind the curtain. To individualize them and to make
them playable more oftenly.

And of course to have fun, because THAT is what it is all about.
Tedious work i can do elsewhere with rewards of higher value.

And now Oolite was brought to my attention.
To make it short:
Splendid! i really love it!
°coughs° well, not all of it, but...
hey, potatoes have eyes and we still eat them ;)

So many ideas i already have, if only i could program...
neverheless i try and made already some improvements on my own
( personal opinion ), like valuesensitive colouring of the HUDbars.
( with the exception of the energybar, BIG thanks to Frame :) )

And tomorrow i continue with my story, when its again
"OH My God! its full of... boring stories of how Yrol goes to school
for the first time and..."
/BLAM/ Silence now! Geez...

°smiles° So, hello to you all out there and thank you all for
being here and doing what you do. maybe i can help a bit,
poke around to make stuff visible that needs fixation.
If so, neato! if not, well, Oolite is a game, so...

LET's PLA/&"|!"§*'#/(/-%"@

Hey, Yrol, welcome to the bb! It's the friendliest forum this side of Riedquat, as I'm sure I won't be the only one to tell you. Good to have you and your enthusiasm on board. Don't be shy about putting forward ideas or modifications, or indeed about programming ... it's amazing how far you can get with cut-and-paste and a modicum of guesswork (I speak from personal experience here).

Yeah welcome, and going on the evidence of your first post, you might be able to write some fan fiction too! :)

My immortal minions shall sweep across the universe and
devour each and every occurence of mankind.
For S.H.O.D.A.N. has returned.
If you profess to have a life destroying race, however vitrios in will and creation. Know this, there is a darkness that come on faceted wings of destruction. We care not for hate, pain, suffering or the simple joy brought by fear. We propagate, replicate, until all the universe is as pure as the lines of a diamond.

I see many flaws in you. The flaw of pride, the flaw of dominion, the flaw of pleasure in the destruction of others. Fear not, you will be wrought anew. Pure and perfect. Wait for us, for we will come and make you as you should have been from the beginning.............

We have no name, for names are meaningless. We will be your salvation. Thought uniformity we will unify all things. You will be blend and flavour, to the perfect union. You have no choice, we are the future. You are flawed, you will yield. If it is your will, or not.

:D yes, you have competition, and thulu just don't cut it.........

Thankees for the warm Welcome °winks°
Indeed i get a bit wordy at times when the mood overwhelps me.

I dived ( have doven? ) into the sourcecode already quite much,
but mostly find myself being lost helplessly.
I have many ideas and no breadcrumbs left, so to speak.
Often enough, it is not so much the code itself that con-fuzes me,
but how it all is related and what is a variable and what is a
referrer to another function.

And i dont simply want to ask someone else to do all the work.
English aint my main language and i have found out that i now and
then get into problems when i try to explain deep technical stuff,
especially, when i do not know the terms and mechanics behind the
topic.

Nevertheless will i try, as  lite is such a nice game already
and such a nice playground, so i will try to re-focus my thoughts
and ideas and such into some helpfull suggestions, questions and
maybe even one or the other answer.

And if anything needs to be tested, just throw it my way.
I do not work, have much many time, can follow orders
and know what is important in testing things.
