Help with The Gimp!

I know this is well off topic but as there seems to be a few people out there using this program, you might be able to help me.

I'm using Gimp v 2.6.5 and I'm trying to create an image with a gradient colour fill, which I'm want to use as a menu bar on a website.

The Blend tool I think is the correct tool to use. I have selected the foreground and background colours I want to gradient between.

Now the Gimp manual says I should drag the mouse over the image in the direction I want the gradient to go, but when I do that I just get the image divided into the foreground and background colours, and not with a smooth fill.

Any ideas on what I need to do?

This is the kind of image I want to produce, but this example has the wrong colours for my project.

:( And there I was about to leap in with a response to a GIMP query I could actually answer!

Anyway, irrespective of you getting the right result sans help - you can often use some of the fancy blended fills that come with GIMP and then play with the HSV values to fiddle with the colours and get what you want...

Problems usually solve themselves out if you give them enough time. So, we all contributed to JazHaz's success. :D
