I spent my time on Oolite and web surfing.

Oh, was there some major sporting event in a far away land?

Something of note to the natives of that land, that's all.
It involved feasting and ritual chants

Shouldn't this be in Outworld?

No. We were discussing the Zero-Gee Tiosolan Football Championships between the Equines (Colts) and the Winged Humanoids (Saints).

Proper football wouldn't work in Zero-G!

As opposed to, let's say, Zero-G cricket, or what?
That's why it's called "Zero-Gee Football" instead of "Proper Football", man.

Think about it.

This got me thinking, though. Some games like American football, rugby etc would work quite well, as would games where you hit a ball (tennis, cricket) but others just wouldn't, like football (soccer) or volley-ball. And can you imagine Zero-G water-polo?

I just did, only with female teams...

Interestingly, while Oolite's pseudo-random system descriptions generator knows of hockey, cricket, karate, polo, and tennis, only Zero-G hockey and Zero-G cricket are ever mentioned in the descriptions (and notably less in Galaxy 5 than elsewhere).
At least the two Zero-G games are quite common around the eight charts. Other then these, there are only three instances of vacuum karate, 19 of mud tennis, and polo isn't actually played anywhere.
Which also means that the "ice" and the "ultra" variants of all these games don't exist at all.
Oh, crappy pseudo-random generation!

Trivia: there are 23 873 086 025 possible planet descriptions (before expanding the %-escapes), with varying probabilities. It’s not surprising that some of them are unused. :-)
