Nice!
I had no idea the laser jutted out like that.
You would think it would be vunerable and get damaged more than it does.

No, as the quote said, it's in the Frontier Developments office.

Interesting details on the model though Griff. Funnily enough though I think your model looks even better!

it's a lovely model, but i hope that's not how they're going to texture it for Elite 4, it looks like it's made out of bits from a castle wall. I can't wait to see what the Frontier artists come up with for Elite 4, i'm convinced that Braben and his team are going to make a masterpiece with that game, he knows what he's doing, as an aside, i read that the next issue of retrogamer (not the one in the shops now) is going to have something about him in it, might not be Elite related though, could be about that virus2000 game he made.

Dunno... it could well be from Elite IV.. I've enlarged the Firebird and touched up the gamma a little, and it doesn't look quite like any Elite logo I've seen before.. similar yes, but that head doesn't look quite right to me.. see what you think.

hmm, that looks like the 25th Aniversary logo, i wonder if this is the trophy for the 'draw a spaceship' competition they ran recently?

Greetings all,
That would be the one I made for someone at Frontier Developments.
The dimensions were taken from a paper model, transferred to plastic sheet and then built on from there.
The Firebird is a painted metal casting, it's been mentioned in one of the threads on this forum.
I have no idea if it's going to be used for anything, I just build 'em and that's about it
Go easy all.

Have you built any others, I wonder?
P.S. You just
know that gun's going to snap off, right?

That's some good work there Raytheon.
Did you make it recently? (might give us a clue as to what's currently on Braben's mind).
edited to add: Check out Raytheon's website for lots more images of this fantastic model.

And of course : "Welcome to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat(tm)" as nobody else has mentioned it...
Nice model - as others have said...
(and secretly they're all thinking, "I wonder how much he charges?"
)
