Xcode 2.1

I just got my hands on XCode 2.1 and I'd like to start using it with Oolite.

Unfortunately it introduces a new project format that only works on XCode 2.1, which unfortunately only works on Tiger.

So what should I do? Continue developing using the older tool without the nice bug fixes and improved development environment, or maintain compatibility with anyone using previous versions of XCode?

Might be an idea to keep that for version v2.00!

...so... Intel based next...?

There don't tend to be huge changes in the project file very often. I'd say, copy Oolite.pbproj to Oolite.xcode, update that and keep the old file around for those of us who haven't upgraded.

A lot of it depends upon what the bug fixes are, what the improvements, and stuff.

However, in principle, I'm opposed to Apple's forced paid upgrades.

Hell, go for it - I think it's a great idea. Clean sweep and all that :P

You mean there's no way to use a backward-compatible project format, like you can with .pbproj at the moment? That's annoying. I haven't upgraded from 10.3. I do want to play with the cool toys 10.4 but I'm not convinced they're a 'must buy' yet.

What's the adoption rate of 10.4 among forum visitors, I wonder?

You may well have to upgrade sometime this year anyway, depending on how well Rosetta works with Oolite, but I'd prefer it if you didn't just yet.

Oolite won't need Rosetta, I will switch to XCode 2.x (3.x 4.x?) before MacIntel boxes are available to buy.

Incidentally, I got a nice 'thank you' letter from an Apple engineer who used my old game JewelToy as test code for creating the X86 version of OS X. He said 'having a game such as this kept the management busy while we engineers fixed other bugs :-)'

Hey, that's nice, Giles!

Be sure to keep that email, maybe one day when you decide to go and do some work for Apple, it could come in handy...

"Hey, Jobs, I singlehandedly saved your codemonkeys from a nervous breakdown during transition, and all that at no cost, time to do me a favour back, whaddayathunk?"

I downloaded that shortly before Christmas. It's a fun way to while away 1/2 hour.

Just in case you haven't noticed. I've switched to using xcode 2.1 from v1.56 onward.

So long as Oolite plays in 10.3 then go for it, otherwise it's a big NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
