Possible engine sound:

Right now it's one large sound with different power levels at the end so for real usage it has to be chopped up. and maybe these sounds have to be paired to different power levels of the throttle. But you can get the idea of how I want an space engine to sound.

EDIT:

And it was not made to sound pleasant or beautiful. But you hear a secondary reactor sound (or something like that)

How it's made.
I'ts noise from an AN1x synth http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/an1x.jpg and the Reason Mealstrom synth out of Reason 2.0.

I like it! At first I wasn't keen on the slight undulating effect (not sure of the term, frequency/pitch?) but the more I listened the more I felt like I was inside a small cockpit of a substantial ship, this was especially helped by the rhythmic reactor sound in the background. I think this engine effect would greatly add to the sense of immersion. I also liked the acceleration and deceleration sounds.

Not sure about the sound towards the end, which I assume was witchfuel injectors. It sounded a bit too light and... 'alieny'. I think I'd prefer a meatier more out-of-control sound for the injectors.

Also, I was playing this on the Totem media player (linux) with the Monoscope visualisation - it looked trippy :D

I'm taking this sound offline by tomorrow. It was meant as a proposal for an engine sound but it's off course far to big for it. But you get the idea off how I imagine an engine to sound. The sound is pitching very high in the end that's because its one long file with all sorts of different variations in it.

Pretty good, but the stereo effect makes me feel seasick.

Thank you for the feedback

I'il make a shorter version. that you can play in the background looped. But I had it too. The more you play it the more obvious it becomes when you miss the engine sound when not playing it.

There's indeed a full 360 rotor effect on the sound. Next version I'il try to make that a little less. But it was made to suggest engine motions and some reactor variations.

Thanks for the feedback.

Engine sound updated. Not posted in OXP as there is no game 'engine' built around the engine sound. Svengali is looking into this. But this engine sound is seamless. You can loop it in the background in Winamp for example.

Let me know if you like it.

I like it ... I can see it becoming something I wouldn't notice until it wasn't there! Would it be possible to link it to speed, so that it went up (a bit) in pitch when you accelerated?

I like it too.. though I'd want to be able to reduce the level a bit...
