Roleplaying an escort craft?

I'm wondering if anyone ever tried roleplaying a system-bound escort craft like a Mamba or Sidewinder (I think that they both lack jump capability) through illicit unlocking, and consciously choose not to jump to another system of their own accord.

This would mean trying to eek out an existence, or just stay alive, by travelling through the wormholes of other craft. Heck, if you are roleplaying it, you could even refuse to trade, and just edit your save file after each station stop to give yourself a meagre wage (and perhaps slip out to the nearby H0opy Casino to fritter your wage away).

Yes, I am bored right now.

Most "non hyperspace" ships are meant to be unavailable to players. In oolite there is no such thing really, so its faked by not allowing players to buy them, and not (normally) giving them any fuel, so they cannot jump.

Ya, but as he said, he's using illicit unlock to get those ships...

Back on topic, I am surprised to see theres no escort missions oxp (although some oxp's do have escorting in them, it's not their primary function) I'd make one my self but it would take forever and I can never really enjoy a oxp i made that has heavy scripting, as i would of written the scripts and know how they work etc. :P

What I meant is that the no-hyperspace is faked.

If you buy the ships, then they are fully hyperspace capable, so unfortunately the question doesnt really make sense. I guess you could just not buy fuel and pretend you dont have hyperspace capability.

The problem with escort missions is that ships mass-lock each other and very few people have the patience to put up with a real-time, sub-light flight from the WP to the station. But maybe now we've got time acceleration, they'll start to get a bit more popular!

Ya, I wish we only got mass locked by hostile ships.

I know, I had seen you mention that in another thread so I mentioned the illicit unlocking.

Hence me asking whether anyone roleplays it. I don't imagine it's something anyone would stick to for a long period of time, but I was curious if anyone had tried it.

I think the main reason is that escort missions are generally considered a PITA, and hardly ever worth the while.

That said, I tried to include some non-PITA escort missions into Cataclysm.oxp. Feel free to try it out.
