For a limited time, custom avatar uploading has been re-enabled.

Huzzah!

Seeing that we get asked about this quite often, please be advised that due to security related issues, uploading of custom avatars to the forum has been disabled until further notice.

More detailed information here.

As a way around this, either use the galleried avatars (standard Oolite ships) or use an image in your signature, found on your profile.

The code you use is as follows:

Code: Select all

[img]http://your.url.to.your.pic.goes.here[/img]
If you want the image to be clickable, use the following code:

Code: Select all

[url=http://the.website.to.link.to][img]http://your.url.to.your.pic.goes.here[/img][/url]

Just want to comment here that I would discourage images in signatures. They result in a messy looking forum.

If you have Greasemonkey script support in your browser, you can install a script that strips out user's signatures. Find it here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/32091

I can confirm it works nicely too.

Perhaps you could replace those error messages with a text explaining that it's a disabled feature and why?

Where's the Boa 2 ?

I'd be happy to have an avatar of my current ship, a Boa Class Cruiser (Boa 2), but there doesn't seem to be one in the gallery, just a regular Boa. Any chance of adding one, please?

A Quote from another_commander:

It would only be fair then to switch the custom avatars off.
Make Everybody use the forum-avatars.
Its kinda "in the face" for everybody who is not allowed anymore
to use a custom one.

Or switch the feature on for one day every month,
like... every 1st saturday or so.

It can't be switched on because of issues with the out-of-date nature of the phpbb software here and the effects of a past attack on the system.

Ideally I'd switch the board to phpbb 3, but it's a non-trivial task.

Drop me a nice email with images no bigger than 100 pixels square and I'll upload them into the relevant folder. Mmmkay?

Can I just check, by the 'relevant folder', do you mean an individual's BB account or are you asking for avatars that can be be added to the gallery?

Good question… unfortunately, I suspect he means the gallery. Plenty of us out here who’d dearly like a custom avatar.

Yup, to the gallery.

Look what I did...

Seconded :D

Edit:- I have prepared a few Avatars based on some of the Smivs'Shipset ships, plus the Boa Clipper and Contractor. You can find these here.
