Science Fiction Trivia

Post by JeffBTX »

Post the answer, you get to post the next clue.

Clues must be definitive. So
(Clue:) "Happened in a galaxy, far, far away"

... while LIKELY to be

(Answer:) "Star Wars" or "The Star Wars Series" or "The Star Wars Franchise"

... is really too general. Not to mention very easy.

But
(clue:) "Sergeant Pinback Kills a Chicken Footed Beachball"
... is OK ("The movie Dark Star").

This is meant to be light hearted and informative... feel free to break in to "call someone out" if they got an answer wrong or posted a clue that is "TOO obscure".

Also feel free to comment and chatter ( ... Yea - and remember when that bomb said "In the beginning, there was darkness! Let there be light!" That was a riot! I want one of those bombs, I'm gonna send one to my in-laws! ... )

===== =====

Okay:

This is in one of two forms, the original short story by H.E. or a television episode.

(1) Marnames Quarlo Clobregnny pyrt sizfifwunohtootoonyn!
(2) Nyms QuarloKlobrigny Pryvt RMENTNDO!

Hint: If you like cats, he'll probably think you are an okay guy... ("CO prowler thinkspeak!")... otherwise you are DRUMDUM and he will burn your face off!

"The Soldier"
http://www.daystar-productions.eu/tol/t ... eps33.html

"THE OUTER LIMITS: "SOLDIER"
POSTED BY NOLAN B. CANOVA, MAY 21, 2009"
http://www.crazedfanboy.com/npcr09/popc ... iew478.php

"..."Soldier" is an episode of the original The Outer Limits television show. It opened the second season of shows on 19 September 1964.

For the second season, Ben Brady took over as producer from Joseph Stefano. This is the first of two episodes written by Hugo and Nebula award-winning science fiction author Harlan Ellison, and is adapted from his 1957 short story "Soldier From Tomorrow. ..."

Here's my clue. The correct answerer will provide the television series, episode and character who said the following:

"However, the only 'tool' diplomacy has is language. It is of the utmost importance that the meaning be crystal clear. "
"I shouldn't have taken off in this crate without more ammo..." Sergeant Knox - Star Blazers

(I can't get it... I would have to look it up or something)
(just a comment - no clue here)
FINALLY! I was afraid no one was interested. At some point, I was going to post with "OK! Rhymes with SHOUTER NIMITZ!"
:)
Or even post this:

That is, I think, my favorite Outer Limits episode. I also have the short story by Harlan Ellison (my 2nd favorite SciFi author).

Well, yes. I don't recall a rule against looking things up. 8)

Hehehe no thats not a rule... (it isn't enforcible, and the basic purpose is to "show off" one's SciFi knowledge, and SPREAD around the trivia...)

... it doesn't seem like too many people are interested in this anyway. No Biggie.

Ok.

Let's stick with quotes.

I'll start with something fairly easy:

"Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."

Who says so, and where (bonus: to whom)?
...and keep it under lightspeed!

that was the mayor (can't remember his name - it'll come to me) and it's from the Foundation series.

EDIT: just dug the book out, is it Salvor Hardin saying it on Terminus?? (i'm pretty sure it is).

If I'm right then I guess I get to ask a question.

Hmm

okay here goes:

a fairly easy clue (but my mind has gone blank) -

The Tempest in Space
(name the film)

In that case:

In the fiction section I wrote a very long short story - a Doctor who shares this name was a crew member of a spaceship.

Name the ship, from this (brilliant) Sci-Fi spoof.

1st scifi spoof to pop in mind is the Galaxy Quest, so I vote for:
NSEA Protector
