Esusale... solved in 1.74.2

Has anyone been to Esusale in G8 lately? A very odd system indeed.

Both Esusale (TL14) and Cecees (TL8) have their own entries in the planet list, but
share the same co-ords and appear to be one system, with one planet and one station.

F5 to F8 display Cecees as the current system, but the commodity prices are TL14 .
You can target Esusale in F6, even Hyperspace to it, but you always end up at Cecees.

I know there are other zero-distance doubles, but you can usually get to both systems.

It is possible to go to both systems.

Having arrived at Ceecees, and checked the colour of the sun with your "digital color meter" you can then re-set your hyperdrive to Esusale and zoom thither.

Upon arrival at your new destination, go straight to the station and dock, without looking at f8 screen edit: this should read "the f5 screen" (but hey! whose counting?). Now you are at Esusale. The commodities market prices are correct, but is described as "Ceecees" because the Esusale government prohibits markets of any kind and so the good folk of Ceecees illegally provide a de facto service in a cynical profiteering adventure out of the goodness of their hearts.

Not having been there for a while, and having written the above in a frenzy of knee-jerk typing, I suppose it would make sense to go and have a look...

EDIT Now I have been there and the circumstances seem the same (as per earlier Oolite version). You can check f8 screen for prices, which are advertised as "Esusale" but, in order to circumvent the Esusale Corporation's free trade prohibition, upon docking you will be invoiced by Ceecees privateers for all services. Naturally they will be charging Rich Industrial prices and distributing tracts re. the benefits of Rational Anarchism.

My "digital color meter" gives the following 8 bit values for the spectra of the 2 stars:

CEECEES
(red) 246
(green) 253
(blue) 255

ESUSALE
(red) 218
(green) 255
(blue) 199

By way of comparison, the 8 bit spectrum values for alpha Centauri are:

alphaCENTAURI A
(red) 255
(green) 243
(blue) 238

alphaCENTAURI B
(red) 255
(green) 217
(blue) 174

It is possible that Esusale/Ceecees is a binary system.
Unfortunately the Esusale Corporation, in addition to its Enhanced Free Trade policy, also operates an Enhanced Academic Freedom programme which restricts access to scientific data and Ceecees' mobsters have yet to establish any universities - although they maintain an excellent virtual library for their own use; no-one has yet survived an attempt to hack into this data base..

Very thorough, Zbond-Zbond… I like it. The next time I’m in G8 I’ll give it another look.
As a Win XP user I’ll have to download ‘Pixie’ or something I suppose.

The ‘political backdrop’ you paint is excellent… it fits nicely.

I only checked Ceecees' star's RGB to satisfy myself that there were in fact two separate stars at this location. They looked different, and the RGB values confirmed that Esusale is orbiting another star.

But, with no TL15 in Gal.8 when visits to a TL14 are necessary Esusale is the only option that doesn't involve Gal.Hyperdrive to Gal.1; initially I was landing on Ceecees first, but found that to be unnecessary. The ColorMeter utility is not needed for that.

(There might be OXP's that add a TL15, though.)

edit: I must add that I always enjoy visiting this system

I dont think there are OXPs that add L15 systems, but there are places like military ships that might sell stuff like galactic hyperdrives that are added.

Yeah, that's one of my "Map Stuffers" that required a bit artistic license.

Back to Esusale and Cecees, I might have a way to disentangle them slightly on the short range map, if not a complete fix yet...

It might take a little while to implement it though. Please stay tuned! :)

there is a similar pair in G4

Riusbequ (Multi-Gov. TL6) & Quzaarar (Democ. TL8)
both are Av.Agricultural

everything seems to check out, with similar tactics as when at Esusale applying

but will check out later..

Ok, in trunk the short range map now seems to cope slightly better with overlapping systems names. It's a bit of a subtle change, really.

In many ways, blink and you miss it:

I've got the feeling it doesn't actually solve the Esusale / Cecees problem, though.
Oh well, I suppose I'll have to jump to galaxy 8 to try and bugfix this one...

That makes a definite improvement to the short range chart!

It is quite nice having the odd planet elusive, like these 8)

Maybe a "mission" (style) screen advising commanders that a bit of clandestine navigation was required to access Esusale TL14 or Quxaarar TL8 shipyards (by some subterfuge) - or any other similar pairs that might exist - would be easier than rewriting code/planet co-ordinates?

Quzaarar 3 221 (11 126) wikiTL8 .. gameTL8 (Av.Ag) Democracy
Riusbequ 3 218 (11 126) wikiTL5 .. gameTL6 (Av.Ag) MulitGov

Cecees 7 144 (94 96) wikiTL8 .. gameTL8 (P.Ind) Anarchy
Esusale 7 251 (94 96) wikiTL13 .. gameTL14 (R.Ind) Corporate State

Agree with all that ZZ says there... the odd quirk is good.

Just been nosing around this pair... very interesting, just like Esusale/Cecees.

Another 'double' system, this time in G5... target Tezabi and end up at Divees:

#247. Tezabi (37,130) and #171. Divees (37,130)

Yep! That's the very pair I've used to test trunk with.

In 1.74 you should be able to select each overlapping star individually, depending on which side of the pair your cursor is approaching from...

Ah, good… and you will be able to jump from one to the other as well, I presume?
