Noob makes new skin. Should I share it and if so, how?

I've been piloting a Dredger Trader and have made a slightly more complex skin for it.
Is it of any use to anyone else?

Post a screenie, best way to get some attention. I'm sure somebody, somewhere, at sometime will want it, and regardless, everyone will appreciate some new skins.
I say go for it.
Like this?

Does this work? Or is there a preferred image host?
Alternately (Links to skin):

Any constructive criticism is welcome. (I'm not anywhere close to the Griff et al league.)
This was quick and impulsive.
Edit: added thumb, etc (Live.com must block their thumbs URL for forum use)

Rats.
The thumbnail address works in my browser but not on the forum.

Photobucket is your friend for imaging hosting - although others (like Another_Commander) use XS.TO.
To get your image to display here - you'd need to put:
Code: Select all

inside the img tags
EDIT: Corrected wrong name for A_Cs photohosting site

I can also recommend iXDrive (
http://www.ixdrive.co.uk), which I find much lighter than xs.to. I have been using it almost exclusively recently.

No no, thank you, Captain Berf!
And now we need to know: are there going to be more ships skins? It would also be nice if there was an entire family of similarly skinned ships!

I'll give a go at skinning the rest of the dredger OXP in the same style.
As this is my first attempt any critiques would be welcome before I continue. i.e does this skin look OK and would the style scale to the huge dredger?
Obviously I'm a B-team skinner but I'd gladly give a go to things the A-team won't hit soon.

I can't say I'm any good at skinning, but I'd remove the black lines from the skin(s). Either completely or replacing them with some fancy transition.

Just a hint for those who want to use above skin.
- Drag above picture to your desktop.
- Create a Textures folder inside your addOns folder (at the same level as all your oxp's.)
- Drop the texture inside here and the dredger will use this one instead.
For this to work you must have at least version 2.2.5 of the dredgers as older versions use a different name for that file.

I tried that and the texture didn't load.

Just in case this helps somebody else (I did read the tutorials. Really.)--
The black lines are there because I essentially made myself a coloring book. But, yeah, if they bug people I can redo it.
Original
into coloring book template
filled in the blanks
end result
I realize I'm now getting out of my depth. I have basic 2d skills but little experience with 3d. So here are some questions:
In looking at the texture for the big dredger
there is no visible template. Is there an easy way to get one?
[The tutorials on the web usually involved 2-3 programs (some of which were no longer available).]
Is there an easy way to preview the end result. I could view the dredger trader easily in the saved game menu since I was piloting one.
Is the prefered size 512x512 or 1024x1024?
Thanks

If you're on a Mac, there's Dry Dock
http://drydock.berlios.de/ , which I believe* should do the trick.
Then again, if you're happy just watching it from within the game, you could just make a minor edit to a savegame, giving yourself the ship you want.
*Since I'm not on a Mac, I have no firsthand knowledge of how DD works or what it does, but rely solely on my spotty recollection of previous forum posts.

Someone should be able to provide you with a UV Map which (I believe) is what you're asking for.
I do my ship-texturing the same way.
