A newbie wonders....

I've just discovered Oolite, and am busy rediscovering the joys of Elite from 20 odd years ago. The .oxp files are great -adding lots of new features to enjoy as well. I'd appreciate some advice on what happens when you add multiple .oxps, such as the sounds, or the different orbiting stations. Do the .oxps co-exist, or will one predominate over the others?
Great work, everyone!

Hello and welcome to the Oolite world. I can say that a lot of OXP's happily live together.
A good starting point is the WIKI. The OXP page is your friend:

Start by adding a few oxp's and see what you like or not. If you got a problem and you've installed 80 OXP's or so then it is difficult to find the cause.
O, and do go directly to a faily high new like 1.73.3. A lot of new OXP's only work for the newest Oolite releases.
Have fun
Greetings,

They co-exist, but sometimes there are incompatibilities.
Lestradae's RS & OSE - being collections of other OXPs with various extra tweaks & whatnots - do tend to be incompatible with the oxps their constituent parts come from.
And yes, do play with 1.73.
4, if you are not using that version already - you can use the savegames from 1.65, and there are quite a few OXPs that really need the latest version of Oolite.

If you download HalSis (female voice), it speaks over the Stephen Hawking voice (I'm on a Mac, don't know if it has that feature on the PC version). Turning off the voice leaves the HalSis to talk alone.

I had the latest release, and I've been loading up the options! All's well.
Thanks for the advice.

Hi,
I'm not sure if this the case anymore, but OXP's used to load alphabetically.
So an oxp that starts with a###.oxp that has same functionality as z###.oxp will be overwritten. That's why some meta-oxp's have names like zzzzzfoo.oxp
