Oolite 1.40 retrospective

Thanks to hj1an, I’ve had the opportunity to play with Oolite 1.40 (released on December 31, 2004) for a bit. This is the oldest version I’ve played.
Startup screen:
There is nothing wrong with this design.
Stop sniggering at the back.
Sky. I think I actually prefer this sun.
I shot up this boa in front of the station. Neither it nor the cops noticed. I shot up a viper with the same effect. We need an Eric here, stat!
(Then I killed a sidewinder and was swarmed by half a dozen vipers.)
Old-style exhaust.
Flashers are a bit different.
Explosions too.

It’s interesting that 1.40 had exactly the same odd showroom lighting that the test releases do (with shaders on), but for largely different reasons.

For some inexplicable reason, I'm fascinated by those globular explosions too!

Ahruman, glad the file download went without problems and you enjoyed it. Imagine, that's what I've been puttering around with all this time!
It's worth noting that shooting rocks in that version you get a small bounty credit.. with the new version, you can't
Those interested can download here from Rapidshare but be warned it is only limited to 10 downloads (9 now)... so if anyone who downloaded it and has a better server to use, please do share it:

hj1an,
If you send me the "ancient Oolite" installer I'd host it on my box.net account, as long as not a thousand download this at once it should stay available then from there.
Cheers

If you're quick enough, click the link above
.
However, if you're too late, will have to wait when I get back to my office broadband connection ..
BTW, it's a disk image, which is for Mac OS X.

I'm not interested in playing V1.4 Oolite myself
But I assume some people will like to be able to have a look at this archeological excavation, and I would help with that if wanted.
Couldn't download it anymore - perhaps drop me a PM when and if you can send it/give me a download link.
Cheers

Aah, the memories! I clearly recall the old explosions, and then being utterly amazed by the new ones.
Also, shooting asteroids was a slow but safe way to earn some Cr.

Curious

Downloading even if I don't have a Mac, just for purely historical reasons. Thanks for making this available.

Nitpick: it’s
1.40, not 1.4. Version numbers are not decimal numbers.
