Precious Metals

G'day Commanders,
Recently I have changed ships a few times. What I'm wondering is what happens to all my gold and plat.?
I had over a tonne of both but when I change ship it just disappears? Or seems to.
The local market shows full. i.e. 127Kg. I didn't notice a jump in my credits to make up for the rest.
As you can imagine, it takes a fair few trades to build up more than a tonne of precious metals.
Would hate to think it was just lost when trading in a ship.
Anyone know what happens to it?

Happy hunting
Al

I think the commander of your old ship is going to be very pleased with himself when he finally gets round to opening the safe in the cabin...

I think it's gone old boy...

(I don't think any cargo is ever transfered on sales of ships - bought as seen and all that - fixtures and fittings)

Ah well, say la vee, at least someone will be happy.
Plenty more planets to trade with in a better ship.
won't take overly long to put together another tonne or two.

Some equipment does - some doesn't - it depends on how it was constructed or if the new ship can take said equipment, or if that equipment is allowed to be transferred under the rules it was given to you (such as Naval Extra Energy Unit - doesn't move)

Weapons don't transfer, for the simple reason that your new ship might have less pylons/gun mounts than your old one did. You should get full value for them when you sell the old ship though (as part of the figure you get for it overall), so if tech level etc allows you can just repurchase them.

There is a Naval extra energy unit?
Where can I find that?
I have the Nav energy unit and Nav shield boosters, is there another Nav boost for energy?

Hi commander El Viejo
Which mission? Got the Nav Energy unit for delivering some papers. Is it that mission you mean?

Weapons don't transfer
Hi Thargoid
That's what I was saying. the weapons did transfer. Though as you say nothing else did. Ergo my confusion over the precious metals.
It was easy to replace my tech toys, seein as it was a tech 13 planet I traded ships on.
But to lose an under estimate of 160,000C on transfer... OUCH

So Commanders, DON'T be having a horde of precious metals and gems when you change ships!
And as said in many a thread, have your ship detailed just before trade.

Happy hunting

Are you sure it's not just that your new ride had some fireworks installed as standard, or as upgrades from the base model?

Well, if you got a lot of cargo, Oolite'll try and flog what it can, but you'll lose the rest when you change ships. I wouln't have more than 256 of each type of cargo on board...

It makes sense you loose it all. Oolite is programmed in a way that the market will never absorb more than 127 units. When this limit would not also get checked on selling the ship, you could cheat oolite in this by selling a whole ship with the goods. A code sniplet from selling a ship shows:

Code: Select all

		[self trySellingCommodity:i all:YES];

// We tried to sell everything. If there are still items present in our inventory, it
// means that the market got saturated (quantity in station > 127 t) before we could sell
// it all. Everything that could not be sold will be lost.
It is anticipated on and loosing surplus goods is deliberate. The only way a market can adsorb more is doing contracts. But than you bypass the market as you have already a buyer before entering the system.

It is just as in real live. When you go to a market to sell your goods and bring much more than can be sold, you can throw away the surplus at the end of the day. Certainly when you sell stuff like vegetables and fruit.

Hi Commadores K and W
First, Commadore Kaks
I wouln't have more than 256 of each type of cargo
Now, what sort of ship are you flying and why hasn't it came under my pirate eye? That volume of cargo would keep my 101 kids and 4 wifes happy for at least a month. Even if it did take a few sorties to pick it all up.

It is just as in real live.
I'm sure you ment 'life' there.
Ooniverse is not real life or even pretends to be.
That is why it is so much fun.
So I lose my inventory on upgrading my ship, but for some reason? kept my attilary?
Just makes the game more fun to try and build up my cargo holdings again.
Speacialy in the precious metals and gems;
Gold - Buy under 40 sell at 41+
Plat - Buy under 72 sell at 77+
Gems - Buy under 20.8 sell aqt 21.8+
Adds up under tonnage
And doesn't affect my main cargo hold.

Happy hunting
