oolite version and recommed oxp's

Hey all,

I just discovered oolite / rediscovered elite, and am having good fun peddling narcotics around the galaxy. galcop vipers are sissies, anyway :-)

I am running the vanilla ubuntu install, but I see screenshots with much nicer graphics, and I see an overdose of OXP's on the wiki

My questions:
1) How do I discover which version I am running, and whether that is the latest version?
2) Is there a set of 'recommended OXPs', ie things that add gameplay but don't fundamentally mess up the core game?

Thanks!

Hi, VV and welcome.

There should be a readme file in the Oolite folder: that will tell you which version.

I run three OXP's:
System Redux
Fighter Hud
Target Reticle

Otherwise, I keep it simple. I like the original feel.

I believe its v1.65 in Ubuntu repositories haven't checked though.
Depends what you consider messing up core of game as all oxps change it in some way.
I recommend random hits though.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm an Ubuntu user too (still on Gutsy - not going to Jaunty or Intrepid until I get a new HD and gfx card for my PC and then I'm going to do it all in one hit!).

Anyway, follow the instructions in this thread and you should be fine - I was!

Think of it as a "this way to much prettier graphics" (and a whole host of other excellent things!)
