My Oolite is dark and with NO nebulae etc

Hi.

I have 1.72.2 pc version of Oolite but this has been bothering me for quite some time....

Everything is fine except the background is VERY dark. It's not gamma, I have a few stars here and there but they are dim. It just doesn't look like space. I see a great picture here....

http://developer.berlios.de/dbimage.php?id=4191

..now I know that may be from development but is there any way, step-by-step, that I can make my Oolite look that, more like space.

I want lots of stars in the background etc.

I have tried several oxps such as Redux but I think I am missing something.

Is there some code I can use to get alot more background and make my space more 'alive'.

Please help, it is so dark and depressing with only the odd star here and there.

Thanks in Advance

Hi CB

Are you using ATI GPU?
If so, see this:https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?t= ... eec8f90375

I've had similar problems. Driver updates helped.
(I've pasted that link wrong; copy and paste.

Wow yes I am actually.

Is it the ATI card ? I use windows XP and an ATI X1950XT card.

Let's see if that works.....

Ok I updated drivers, but it didn't help, and I haven't the first clue about this compiling from source and trunk business. Do I just have to wait for 1.73 and then it will all work ?

Better brains than mine will provide more help.
That's what I'm doing - waiting on 1.73 as there is a problem with the precision roll/pitch thingy as well. Fine in 1.65, now I do without.

Ok well now it's much brighter and some more 'stuff'.

But alas, now I have the 'translucent square bug instead of nebulae' problem. Is there a quick fix ??

This also might help.

Still can't post a live link!! That's odd. It is.

For more stars / nebulae:
- Open up <OoliteInstallDir>\oolite.app\Resources\Config\planetinfo.plist.
- In the above file, find this part:

Code: Select all

universal =
	{
		// The two multiplier values below determine how many more stars will be used to populate space
		// with respect to the number normally used. Apply to all systems by being included in the
		// "universal" section.
		star_count_multiplier = 2;
		nebula_count_multiplier = 1;
- Change the star_count_multiplier and nebula_count_multiplier to higher values. How high will depend on what your system can take and also personal taste.

In case it helps, almost all of the screenshots I have posted in the Screenshots thread have been made with star_count_multiplier=5 and nebula_count_multiplier=10.

That helps me as well.

Solution ;

I've used the Omega drivers and now everything is perfect.

Also increased those above values, even the full shaders look better now.

Thank you all

The original ATI drivers do not work yet for cards below the 2000 series. I've got a X800XTPE and X1550 which both suffer from this, as the newest ATI provided driver was 9.3 some days ago...and the driver version which adressed the problem is 9.6 - which probably made it into the omega drivers while not being available for users of "old" ATI cards yet. ATI said they would release new drivers every three months which would mean that the 9.6 drivers should have also been released for the "old" cards, but apparantly they did not.

Maybe I should give those omega ones another try...when I did in the past, it did not help, but the ATI original drivers were also without the bugfix at that point.
