I have yet to install Linux on my PS3 yet. But was wondering if Oolite could run on the PS3 since it does support Linux. Has anyone tried?

It could run, but Sony has blocked all better graphic engines of the PS3.

But why not publish as WiiWare ?

I daresay they are no worse than a PC without shaders... which some of us are already using, harrumph. And they are CERTAINLY better than a BBC Model B!

So if Elite 4 is crappy, that's Elite 4's fault, I guess!

I'm just saying what would be the point? The control interface would be an absolute bag of hurt, and the graphics wouldn't be worth it. Maybe for 360 it might, but that'd be expensive.

Considering oolite is essentially elite -- triangles (ships) and circles (stars, planets) flying around, even in its modern incarnation with shaders and so on, I hardly think we are in a position to laugh at the wii.

Not that I think there is a problem, to me its all part of the charm -- if I wanted a beautiful, modern xbox/ps game, I wouldnt be playing oolite.

What rock have you been under? I've been away for half a year and still I saw the griff ships. Those are better than anything you can get on the wii.

You do realize that you are addressing one of the members of the Oolite dev team, right? I'm sure he knows much more about Oolite than what you think and I'm also sure that you missed his point.

Alright, I just don't see any reason to make a console port of Oolite. Point taken.

As Oolite's graphic engine can't do reflections or light sources other than the sun or even proper transparencies I'd say in many ways it is considerably way behind the graphics capability of the Wii. The fact that shader ships look so good is testimony to the skills of Griff/Simon B et all making the best of what is a fairly limited set of graphical capabilities.

You will have to justify 'terrible' rather than just mouthing off. Some of the games on the Wii are graphically very clever and as I'm a Lecturer in Defence Modelling and Simulation I too know what I'm talking about...

I'm saying that Griff and Simon's ships look far better than any game I've ever seen on the Wii. This might just be a question of modeling quality, but I think Oolite looks better.

Why does everyone hate me for hating the wii?
Besides, that clip lacks explosions and spaceships and trumbles.
But if you like pretty open source graphics, try out Cube 2: Sauerbraten. It's a great game that looks a lot like the demo you linked to.
