Orisis V1.3. OXP

Concept and Idea: P.A. Groove
Reskins and new models: ADCK
Scripting and help: Thargoid
Some fiction facts: Thanks to Daddyhoggy: Read his story Lazarus

--------------------------------------
Bigships
----------------------------------------
Included with this OXP is the excellent Bigships.oxp from Thargoid and Eric Walch. Before using this ship install the Bigships.oxp

V 1.3. changes from v1.2

- Ship now has shaders
- Several variants by ADCK

On the ADCK variant

Large trade companies needed a workhorse. Gasecspaceliners contracted shipbuilder ADCK for that. ADCK built a lighter yet stronger hull giving the ship even planetary landing capabilities.
It is now a common sight in the safer systems.

I had no experience in shipbuilding till now. But today I learned a bit Wings 3D. It was difficult. I did no eat at all. So thats what I'm gonna do now. Started this morning and it's now the next day Now I have to find out how to make a real OXP out of it.

Orisis Class is GASECWorks' newest heavy industry frigate

It can be adapted to many roles. It depends on the customer. Here a standard version is shown. If I'm able to make a OXP out of it then I want to do many versions.

Planned variants:

- Coriolis (core) tug
- Heavy freighter
- Planetary lifter
- Passenger cruiser
- Navy Frigate
- Hospital ship
- Science vessel
- Maybe a player version for the after Elite commander

If you didn't start using Wings3D until today and this is what you have managed to produce already then I marvel! Bravo! Very well done indeed. Looks like a splendid diamond in the rough - can't wait to see it all fully polished!

Very nice. With some nice texturing, this will be one of the gems in OOlite.

Hm, what about the option of special trade missions for this ship if the discerning post-Elite commander had one? What would it's cargo capacity actually be? 10.000 tons?

Perhaps even "transport this Coriolis to this world" missions etc.?

That's what I think about. Shown here is the bacis GASECworks hull. Imagine a millitary version full of turrets

For the cargo version: It cannot dock. It would look ridiculous so I'm planning a platform station in orbit for it to land on. A bit like the platforms in X-wing or X-wing vs Tie fighter series. I don't know if it's doable. I think the ai should not have a problem with it but I don't know if a player can land on it. Maybe have docks like the fuel station from Thargoid so that if you fly through it the ship will unload.

I'm not planning on going into scripting to much so my models are pretty much a give away for the creative scripter.

I like to texture, model and making planets till now :D

That's quite a convergence of thought, I am also thinking about how to get rid of the really big ships docking problem once and for all, for NPCs and players.

Some sort of docking platform where you get "transferred" to and from a given station would be a possible solution, if you do that, I will have a close look into how you did it.

Alternatively, I was also thinking about a "landing boat" function for players (basically an upgraded, ever-reloading escape pod), with which the player could land on stations and do the trading/mission acquiring from there (the unloading and reloading of one's own vessel would be invisible then). At launch, the player would be moved a few kilometres away from the docked station (similar to Thargoid's "orbital boost" in planetfall), hopefully simulating that the too-big-to-dock ship was lying in wait there all along.

Just a few ideas, feel free to play around with them if something makes sense to you too.

The first customer for the Orisis Class hull has been found>
Oo-go a mini-cruise operator from Xexedi.

Here is their new livery 8)

I will look into it. I thik about a kind of transfer hub complete with tubes to connect to a ship (if possible).

A quick-hack to get it in-game (hence lack of exhaust plumes etc):

It still has some glitches which I've fed back to PAGroove, but looks quite nice to me.

It looks a bit like a toy, I am afraid.. I think it is the windows that look painted on. If you could get something of a normal map effect that slightly recesses the windows, it would probably work better. And maybe something specular or glowing for the actual window panes.

I do really like the transfer hub. It might also be useable with other ship models.

Rich worlds could have a transfer hub, which is of a standard size and allows for docking by most large ships that do not fit into normal docking bays..

In that case, the script the populates the Orisis should be careful where it places the various versions.

The screenshot is directly out of Wings 3d. I agree with you on the hard looks. I first wanted to have a basic texture. I want it to look a bid older and filthy.

EDIT

And it cries for shades But that will come. See also in the modelers discussion for the Hammerhead to get the idea.

I would say that a ship with this size would not need to dock. It can function as a station by itself. Plenty room aboard to store some planetary landing ships. No need to bother with stations.

That is what I did with the dredger family: Once the ships come near the planet, they launch a large amount of shuttles to deliver the harvested goods to the planet. The very large dredger can launch up to 80 shuttles. (I calculated the shuttle count amount based on its weight)
