Here's a recent list of the OXP's I have installed. Some are Beta / WIP's, others have been updated (so the version number you see on mine may be out of date), others I have personally modified. Overall, it's a pretty good list, I feel. Some you can easily pull out - I'm in Galaxy Chart 2, so I could / should pull out Taranis, Spyhunter, LongWay, Black Barron since they're all G1. Assassins since it's G7. Few others.... I don't primarily because I have the memory to spare and am inherently lazy.

The List:
AAACrooks.oxp, "aegidian-special.oxp", "Amen Bricks Megaships.oxp", "AMS 1.00.oxp", Anarchies2.1.oxp, "Aquatics 1.04.oxp", Assassins.oxp, "AsteroidStorm 3.52.oxp", att1.oxp, "behemoth 2.5.oxp", "BehemothSpacewar 1.2.1.oxp", black_baron.oxp, BountyScanner.oxp, buoyRepair1.02.1.oxp, caduceus.oxp, "Captured Thargons 1.00.oxp", Cargo_wrecks_teaser.oxp, cobra35.oxp, cobra3njx.oxp, cobraclipperPC.oxp, Commies.oxp, "DeepSpacePirates 1.0.oxp", deposed1.3.3.oxp, "Dictators v1.3.oxp", Diso.oxp, "Dredgers 2.2oxp.oxp", eagle2.oxp, "Energy Equipment 1.04.oxp", Famous_Planets_v1.1.oxp, Famous_Planets_v2.0.oxp, "Freaky Thargoids 3.oxp", "FTZ v0.13.oxp", "Fuel Station 1.11.oxp", "Fuel Tank v2.2.oxp", FuelCollectorV0.06.oxp, Galactic_Navy.oxp, genship.oxp, globestations.oxp, greekshipset1.oxp, Griff_Debris_sets135_no_normal_map.oxp, griff_krait_v1.1.oxp, GrittyCoriolis.oxp, gwxstations.oxp, hammer.oxp, Hawksound.oxp, Herald.oxp, hOopyCasino.oxp, Hotrods.oxp, icarus.oxp, impcourier2.oxp, interstellar_help.oxp, "ionics-1.2.1.oxp", Lave.oxp, Lave.oxp, interstellar_help.oxp, Llama.oxp, longway.oxp, "lovecats 1.1.oxp", manta.oxp, marett_vol1.oxp, marett_vol2.oxp, MedusaHud.oxp, "military Fiasco 2.4.1.oxp", milmissile.oxp, "Missile Analyser 1.1.1.oxp", "Missile Rack 1.02.oxp", "Missiles and Bombs v2.0.oxp", monument.oxp, murgh_Xships.oxp, newships.oxp, oldships.oxp, "Oo-Haul.oxp", Ore_processor.oxp, PAGroove_Stations_v1.2.1.oxp, piratetraps.oxp, "Pirate_coves 1.1b.oxp", "Pods 1.02.oxp", "Pods-UPS 1.01.oxp", Probe_1.02.oxp, "Python Class Cruiser 2.6.oxp", RandomHits275.oxp, renegades.oxp, "RepairBots 1.00.oxp", RoC.oxp, Rock_Hermit_Locator1.3.oxp, "Saleza v2.oxp", "Second Wave 1.00.oxp", sell_equipment.oxp, Shady_blackmonks.oxp, "Shield-tail.oxp", spyhunter.oxp, "supercobra 1.3.oxp", System_Redux.oxp, taranis.oxp, "Target Reticle 1.0.1.oxp", tgy_dev.oxp, thargoidcarrier.oxp, "thargoid_wars 4.3.oxp", "Thorgorn_Threat 1.2.oxp", tianve.oxp, tori.oxp, "Traffic Control 1.01.oxp", transhab.oxp, "Transports 2.48.oxp", "Trident Down v1.1.oxp", tugs.oxp, "UPS-courier v1.5.0.oxp", Vector1.1.oxp, velocity.oxp, "Welcome Mat 1.05.oxp", wolfmk2.oxp, "x-ships.oxp", YOUR_AD_HERE.oxp, YOUR_AD_HERE_set_A.oxp, YOUR_AD_HERE_set_B.oxp, YOUR_AD_HERE_set_C.oxp, YOUR_AD_HERE_set_D.oxp, YOUR_AD_HERE_set_E.oxp, YOUR_AD_HERE_set_F.oxp, "cobra3njx-camo.oxp", "new 1.72 only AI.oxp", griff_cobra3_no_normalmap.oxp

Hi Tomo, welsome to the boards! Commander Cheyd's list is a good place to start, but it really depends what you're looking for. Do you want missions, or alternative career possibilities, new trading locations, eye-candy, big kickass ships, more Elite-and-Eliteish ships...

As Cheyd points out, most of the pure mission OXPs are galaxy-specific, so it depends where you are. Also, if your commander is still just starting out, you might want to leave the bigger, meaner ships out for a while, until you get your iron ass sorted out.

My own current list is:

Behemoth (scenery/dockable ship, trading possibilities, putting the boot into the Thargoids)
Buoyrepair (scenery, trading possibilities, and the ever-handy repair of buoys)
Commies (scenery, background traffic, trading locations, ships)
DeepSpacePirates (puts pirates outside the spacelanes)
Dictators (scenery, background traffic, trading locations)
Dreams01beta (new skins for old ships)
Dredgers (scenery/dockable ship, trading possibilities)
Ferdelance-NG (new ship-type)
Flying Dutchman (mystery and lurking horror)
Frog Space Rickshaw (background traffic/scenery – tweaked to keep them to Corporate and Democracy worlds)
Free Trade Zone (scenery, trading locations)
Fuel Tank (equipment – vital)
Galactic Navy (scenery, trading possibilities, career opportunities, putting the boot into the Thargoids)
Globestation (scenery)
Gritty Coriolis (scenery)
New Ships (new ships)
Old Ships (er... old ships)
Ore Processor (equipment)
PAGroove Stations (scenery)
Python Class Crusier (ship)
Random Hits (scenery, trading possibilities, career opportunities)
System Redux (scenery)
Thorgorn Threat (Thargoids putting the boot in themselves)
Tori (scenery)
Transports (background traffic)
Tugs (background traffic)
Wolf Mk II (ship)
Wolfwood's Variants (ships)
Your Ad Here (scenery, trading possibilities)

By no means definitive, but the great thing about OXPs is that you can pick and choose to craft your own version of the game.

Thanks for the input, folks; the remark about 'growing the skin tick 1st' is a key one :)

I like the OXPs very much already, since the concept reminds me about the work on modding the Panzer General 3SE by yours truly.

Dont' forget the...

A "what oxp" discussion is not complete without mention of the new neolite ships - this is a project, inviting collaboration, to replace all the in-game ships with models which make more use of modern graphics cards without sacrificing the feel of the game.

These ships are increasingly compatible with favorite add-ons like Random Hits.

neolite.oxp replaces all the standard ships with fancy models using shaders and normal maps. Still beta - very playable.

neolite-companion.oxp includes all the ships in the oldships.oxp with bonuses: Mussurana and Python Class Cruiser.

To come:

gunslingers - fighter ships for players - namu light fighter and blade scout/escort. Adds explicit weapons models.
frontier cruisers - big ships with turrets - blockade runners.
galcops - a range of liveries for vipers, viper iii, namu patrolcraft.

Players are encouraged to modify the models and create new skins.

Ah, if we're self-publicising then have a look in the link below for a few other offerings... ;)

As for personal recommendations, given the OXPs are very varied both in what they're trying to do and what they offer, it's difficult to recommend things for others without knowing more what you're interested in, what you want and what you're looking for.

Ne, nimalo :) And I see you love emulators; I run the VICE & Steem when I spare some time.

Folks, what would be the recomended hardware for runnng the neolite ships & stuff?

Okay, but what about the neolite stuff?

i wouldnt imagine neolite would significantly change system requirements. guess you need a 3d card from somewhere in the past few years, so maybe some netbooks might not be up to it, but I doubt you are likely to have issues assuming a relatively normal machine (3-4 years old, a gig or so of ram)

With shaders on, my imac with geforce 5200 gets round 30fps in low populated system. :( Latest MacPro runs on steady 60 FPS, full shaders, whatever happens on screen.

Can't enable shaders on pc with radeon 9250.

l wish i could make use of shaders... I have an Athlon XP 1.7Ghz with 749Mb RAM and a Geforce MX 64mb card... But it still runs Oolite ok. Cant wait till I get my new gaming system, then Oolite will look phat!
