Which version did you download? What are your PC specs? Do you have a log from the game? It should be inside the oolite.app/Logs folder and is called Latest.log. Please post the contents of this file.

Hi firemanpek,

try again with version 1.72.2 installed, really do. It may be called a test version, but is more stable than 1.65 and many oxps will no longer run with the de facto outdated version 1.65.

Cheers

Could it be that you've been resizing or moving the window? I made a few tests with 1.72.2 on XP32, XP64 and Vista 32 recently...and it turned out that the Vista system began to massively leak memory when I did move/resize the window! It was possible to continue the game for a brief amount of time, but then the memory was exhausted and the game crashed (closed).

On the topic of crashes... 1.72.2, Win XP, some OXPs installed...

I make several jumps and dock in most systems, and when I press F1 to launch, the game crashes to desktop. There's no notable symptoms, other than variable (small) lag on docking / launching depending on the number of ships and asteroids present (I think). What's interesting is that the game never crashes on the first few launches. A series of once-per-launch memory leaks piling up?

Could anything interesting be found in the logs; what should I be looking for?

I would wonder if that particular one is due to when the system is being set up either just before or just after launch (depending when the OXPs do their stuff, on this.shipWillLaunchFromStation or this.shipLaunchedFromStation).

I have noticed that if an entity is spawned within another one, then you can get a desktop moment. Not usually a problem, but when things like system.legacy_addShipsWithinRadius(...) are used it can sometimes cause things to appear in the wrong place, within something else (e.g. if you go it near a station, the added ship can occasionally be within it if you're unlucky).

Perhaps your problem is related to the one here:

Could be. However, now that I'm in galaxy 3, I've been so far unable to recreate the crash, despite flying approximately equally long runs as before, usually without visiting one star system twice. I haven't disabled any OXPs that I used when the crashes did occur. Oh well. Needs more testing, as the saying goes.
