the other day i got my first mission: find the constrictor. they told me it had been seen at Reesdice. when I got there, they told me it had gone to Arexe. There I heard that it had used a galactic hyperdrive. so I went to the second galaxy. now the problem is that i can't find the thing. At Orrionti and the surrounding planets nobody seems to have seen the constrictor.

where is it? how can I find it?

You most probably did not look around far enough...it's a common trouble that people think they lost the trail, but when exploring a little bit more outside the first galactic jump position, the trail should be found again!

Good hunting!

In original Elite you always entered a new galaxy on the same spot. On that spot the trail continued.

With Oolite you enter the new galaxy in the same area were you left the previously. Therefor about 10% of the systems, contains a clue how to get back on trail. Just keep searching and in the end you'll get back on track.

one more question: what are the criteria for getting that mission? I got it when I had 256 kills. and by the time i found him, I had 300+

you definitely have to jump about a bit when you reach galaxy 2... took me a while to find the trail again... but he does turn up!!! keep looking!!!!

IIRC i found him before you did, but that was not my question. what i wanted to know is, do you need 256 kills to get the constrictor mission (your mission, should you choose to accept it... ring a bell?) or is there something else that has to happen? can you get the mission at 200 kills or 300 or 400?

The criteria for getting the Constrictor mission are:
1) Be docked at the main station.
2) Be either in Galaxy 1 or in Galaxy 2.
3) Have more than 255 kills.

Theoretically, you can get the mission at 300 or 400 kills, if you fly around without docking and shooting down enough ships, after you have scored your 256th hit.

If you've been reading around this forum, you'll know I've got some interesting experiments with TGY in the pipeline. I'll let you know what happens at 412 kills then!

I made the mistake by pursuing the constrictor with a mounted Galactic drive. In one of the jumps I miss-pressed a key and was in G3. Bad luck. The G3 mission is not started but I finished the G4 and G5 missions. Than on for assassains.oxp in G7. Back to G1 and once in G2 I found the trail back.

Not a recommended route. And after assassains the constrictor is just a piece a cake.

In the graveyard oxp I discovered a dangerous AI file with the name "derelictAI". Such a common filename is a good candidate to be overwritten by an other oxp. And when looking it is the same AI as Oolites internal "buoyAI". So when someone starts working on it, better remove that AI completely and use Oolites own buoyAI for that derelict adder. :!:
