------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Famous Planets SpacewayLiners.OXP by Thargoid and P.A. Groove
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Models and permission for using it: By Ramirez, without him it wouldn't be possible. The models are from his Executive Spaceways.oxp.
Thanks to Presti70 for drawing in the lines on his trading map which can be found in this topic:
https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?t=5679&start=75
---------------
What it does:
---------------
This OXP adds Spaceway Liners on the 4 spaceways from Lave to Zadies. You can find a map on the Bulletin Board. Just search for the latest version of Presti70's trading map of Galaxy 1. It is a separate OXP but is designed to complement the upcoming Famous Planets v2.

There are 4 sorts of liners that fly on different routes:

Colour Spaceway Between Region

Blue L1 Lave – Lerelace (Old worlds ---> Xexedi Cluster)
Yellow liner L2 Lave – Zadies (Old worlds ---> Galcenter G1)
White liner L3 Zadies – Teraed (Galcenter G1--> Teraed Region)
Pink liner L4 Teraed – Tianve (Teraed Region-> Pulsar Worlds)

-----------

The 4 lines are operated with success by Oojet in various configurations. Due to having no mapping computer themselves the Liners (with escorts) fly out to the Witchspace beacons where they can hyperspace on the pre-programmed Spaceway routes. This was done by Oojet to prevent hijacking of the liners by pirates who want to add another Strelka liner to their collection.

Sometimes a Strelka can be found loading and waiting for its escorts outside the station.

------------
A note to the commander
------------
Be aware that the Spaceways L1 to L4 are very busy and crowded. So a trip may take longer than normal

-----------
Also coming soon!
-------------
Famous Planets v2 - In this OXP you can see all the planets from Lave to Zadies plus more in full HD!

Sorry pagroove, I haven't got the time to test it in action yet, but the screenie looks cool. Till Monday my time is very limited, but I'll test it for sure after Mo :-)
BTW: I'm one of those elegant lines lovers and Ramirez models are still one of the best (not to mention our art directors thingies :-)).

Keep on rocking!

Downloaded, but still putting things back together for Oolite. Screenshots look pretty cool though!

Let me know if you tested it

Well I like it, but then I probably do have something of a biased viewpoint towards it

The station-launching Strelka for me work very well (the way they hook-up with their escorts), but I just wish I could have a nicer way to introduce the escorts of the parked ones when they decide to move off. One for back-burner thought perhaps.

We seem to be having something of a slow time this week, the download count for both this and Lave Academy isn't what I normally see. Ah well. :?

I'm not going to bother with Lave Academy until I'm back in Galaxy 1 -- I'm off to see about the Assassin's Guild!

That's the beauty of Oolite. If it were a buyable game, and all the OXP missions were already in there, it would be hailed as one of the most open-ended game universes out there. You would have people posting on messageboards "OMG, I am in Galaxy 7 and I have 415 kills, and I'm getting these cool missions to do" and stuff like that.

So for now, I just download what I need to do.

Maybe I'll download the Academy and start a new commander!

Time to bump this old thread... Famous Planets Liners is one of my favourite OXPs. Am I the only one who appreciates this? I'd like to know how many have this OXP installed? Anyone?

Or just wait for the long-delayed but much anticipated Liners OXP

I read through that thread this morning, Smivs. Liners will just introduce more impractically large megaships. I don't understand the point of doing that. Ramirez's Strelkas were sensibly sized models... I'll say no more lest I offend someone.

Regarding FP Liners, I almost finished a name-gen for it this morning so that instead of 4 different coloured, but nameless ships, I have a fleet of 429 individually named ships. Names range from the bureaucratic "Tianve Arrow" for one of the white ones to "Pussycat's Passion" for one of the pink ones. When I write almost finished, I mean that the name-gen is finished, I just have to figure out the ship roles in Thargoid's populator script so that the pink names get attached to the pink ships, and so on, and then it's done. I'm happy about this.

Next I'll tackle the Anacondas, because they're my favourites. Soon every ship in the ooniverse will have an individual name. (Except Kraits, because they're crap. )

Brilliant name for an anaconda. Name that Anaconda thread is here --> https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10205 <-- there, follow the link, not here, "here". That one will definitely be in, anyway.

No offence taken, just puzzlement at your negativity.
Many players like to see large, exotic and awe-inspiring ships in their Ooniverse. They are eye-candy, no more, no less. Just like the extra planets, moons and stations other OXPs add.
Thargoid, PAGroove ADCK and myself have been developing this OXP on and off for months to offer just this, as there is clearly a demand for these, and we like doing them as much as others will like seeing them.
As for their size, well they are big, yes, just like an Earth-bound ocean Liner is big compared to say a coaster or trawler. Thousands of holidaymakers and sightseers are going to want 'cities in space' with pools, restaurants, cinemas etc, and all this is not going to fit in something the size of an Anaconda. We are building luxury cruise liners not buses! And they are actually not unfeasably large anyway. The Oolympic class at 1.5 Km is not much longer than a Coriolis station's diameter and will have much less cubic capacity due to being long and thin.
The other point to consider is that they will be un-common sights, only rarely encountered.
And of course these will be found around the Eight, not just ferrying between a few planets in Galaxy One.
<Usual disclaimer> If you personally don't want them, don't install them.

How is this differet from Executive SpaceWays? Can both be used at the same time?
