Oolite Bulletins

As the normal mapping of ships is becoming the norm for the newer ships I thought I'd make this odd offer.

I work in an establishment where I have access to lots of old and not so old armoured vehicles - mainly ex-soviet stuff - if anybody would like any pictures of grills, hatches, angled plating, turrets then I'd be happy to take a selection. I don't have a great digital camera - it's a point and click 5MP job with a fairly shoddy flash but could be used to take good enough pictures to act as a starting point or give some inspiration.

Just a thought...

So how is the job in the Soviet Arms Dealership going?

Yeh, now that would be a Tim-Burtonesque "reimagining" of a classic British Movie of the '60s - "One of our T-72s is missing"

They're quite literally museum pieces - used for teaching (how armour and armoured vehicles work) - they're generally "driveable" but not "functional" (i.e. the engines work and they can be moved around under their own power, but the guns and other "lethal" equipment is either missing or decommisioned)

Oh I wish! They're in the "gun shed" - under lock and key - not that a brick wall represents much of an issue for a 60T main battle tank in determined hands...

Fully working T72 (gun disabled ) complete with fording snorkel (would you want to be 10ft underwater relying on just the snorkel for your air and your engines air supply... no, me neither!)

And if I lean over the balcony and look straight down I can see this...



So, if anybody is seeking inspiration for hull shapes, platings, hatches etc...

No, here. Specifically the building in the middle picture - although the picture doesn't do the scale of the building justice (it's 100m long for a start)

Hey, I spent a year there when it was still RMCS (1997). Enjoyed it a lot. (Hard work though)

Don't recognise your building though. One of the new ones?

I did my Masters part time there starting in 1999 graduating from the last ever RMCS graduation in 2005 when it became the Defence Academy.

And I failed to answer your whole question: The DCC (Defence Capability Centre) is built at the back (front?) of the old Gun Sheds/Ammo Hall - next to (and infact in the old carpark of) Malborough Hall. If that makes any sense to you...

There are no Welsh people here, so I'm pretty sure it's not Torchwood...

Although the new JSCSC looks a lot like (from the front - couldn't find a decent photo) like the saucer from the 80s TV show - 'V'...
