Oolite Bulletins

I installed Oolite 1.72.2.x86.v2 again, to try and resolve the yaw problem that I have with it. In the process of trouble shooting, I have messed up my joystick settings. I am runing Olite under Ubuntu 8.04. I have uninstalled 1.72 and went back to the stable version 1.65. I have "Jscalibrator" installed, to calibrate my joystick with, and it sees all of axis and buttons. When I try and setup the joystick inside of Oolite, the game does not see either of the joystick's axis. It correctly identifies my joystick and if I assign any of the joystick's buttons, it sees them. Up until I tried to use the newer version, everything worked great. Now it will not let me assign the axis regardless of which version I have installed. The joystick is also used to fly X-Plane 9 and I do not have any problems with it. Is there a joystick file or folder that I can delete, so I can start over? I am having withdrawals and need to get this problem fixed.

Refer to this link on how to completely remove v1.65, and
how to get v1.72.2 setup. Note that if you have 64bit OS
you should build from source. Post if you still have issue.

In the meantime post your joystick brand/model.

I seem to have this problem as well.

Just built a new box with Xubuntu 8.10 on it and built the 64 bit 1.72 Oolite which seems to be working OK.

I have never really bothered much with joysticks, they are just something else to clutter up my desk. I saw a cheep and cheerful usb joystick for only about 10 euros so decided to give it a try, It works OK everywhere except in OOlite, the buttons work Ok and can be assigned but there is nothing from the XY axis or the sped control which shows in JSconfig as axis 4.

It is a silvercrest JS01, but is basically a made in China usb stick, probably assembled by a three year old in his mums kitchen.

Just to clarify a bit. You have already tested your joystick
in other games in Xubuntu and the axis detection is OK, right?

I now consider myself very lucky that my stick, a Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Power 2 - works beautifully under Ubuntu (7.04 and 7.10) - no fiddling or tinkering at all (although I wish the same could be said for my web-cams and scanner none of which work under Xsane et al)
