PLZ HELP oolite does not work any more

It used to work perfectly but now everytime I start it crashes immediately.
I use version 1.72 & vista and have the followin error in stderr
2009-01-09 17:38:55.337 oolite[19256] File NSUserDefaults.m: 626. In [NSUserDefaults +standardUserDefaults] Improper installation: No language locale found
ALERT ... GSCurrentThread() ... objc_thread_get_data() call returned nil!
Your application MUST call GSRegisterCurrentThread() before attempting to
use any GNUstep code from a thread other than the main GNUstep thread.

Hmmm... Wild guess here, but it seems like one of the GNUstep dependancy files have gotten corrupted somehow. Vista, go figure.
I suggest trying a complete uninstall and reinstall. If that don't help... Well, I don't know.
There's a couple of others that use vista on here, they may be able to fix you up if the uninstall/reinstall trick flops.

I did it several times but it does not work.....

un-install oolite
REBOOT
rename remaining install directory
download a fresh copy of Oolite-1.72.1-test.exe
http://prdownload.berlios.de/oolite-lin ... 1-test.exe
re-install oolite and run

had you installed any new software just before problem ?
sometimes programs silently disallow access ( firewall, antivirus, Windows UAC ).
you could also try right-clicking oolite destop icon and 'run as Administrator'
the first part of stderr (language locale) is harmless.
the second is a standard message relating to thread creation ..
maybe someone familar with GNUstep could connect the error to something on Windows.
it's a strange glitch

I hate to say it, but bdug's issue may very well be a vista issue.
Vista is widely reported as suddenly breaking software, hardware, and drivers for no apparent reason. One day your device or app works, the next day it won't.
Initiate Vista Fix #1: wipe the drive, install XP.

Been stable on Vista x64 for nearly 2 years (save a month when my Raptor HDD went *BOOM*). OS's don't "suddenly break" soft/hardware. I run Oolite fairly stabily, with the occasional crash due to either me needing the clean the dust outta the system (literally), or Oolite doing something funky in with the Nvidia driver. Not sure which. Anyways, we know we won't see the same on that stuff, Wyvie....
As for your problem dbug - Solas is likely on the right track. Do you have a 3rd party AV or firewall installed? Is Windows UAC on or off?

Oolite renders through OpenGL. nVidia nerfs the DX side of the driver on occasion, but they generally tend to get the GL side down to a science.
It smells like an overheating issue you've got, if a bit of dirt on the fans makes the system go nuts. nVidia's chipsets from the GF4 on up tend to run hot, and often the stock cooler that gets slapped onto the GPU leaves a lot to be desired.
I recommend sticking a Zalmann VF90 or equivalent aftermarket cooler on it. I went with a VF90 when the stock cooler failed to be adequate on my GF, and haven't had a heat related problem since. Sticking an extra case fan in can't hurt, either.
PS: You can learn a lot from overclockers. Heat is their enemy, and they invent great methods to deal with it.

I did not install anything, except the regular windows updates which are automatic.
is there any oolite programmer around who would have an idea ?

I can think of anything that ha changed in oolite recently that might cause that, maybe its a new driver that vista downloaded?

I use v1.72.1 but it was the same with 1.72.
I use vista 32 bits.
15 days ago oolite was working fine.... I do not understand anything...

It's a wild guess, but could it be possible that installing the newest GNUStep packages from
www.gnu.org might repair anything that Vista might have broken with the GNUstep framework?
Maybe my suggestion is totally wrong as I'm not familiar with Windows, but it might be worth a try?
I hope you'll find a fix soon! Otherwise I would think that you'll have to reinstall Vista.
