Taranis Wolf - How to find it?

Hi All,

I've been playing Oolite now for a few weeks and must say, it's fantastic. I remember playing Elite on the BBC Micro around 25 years ago (OMG!) and Oolite is everything I always wanted Elite to be!

I'm a bit stuck with the Taranis mission though as I can't seem to locate the Wolf MkII I need to destroy. I flown to Reinen several times (from a saved commander before the mission is due to compete date) where the mission says I must destroy the Wolf. Flown aroun the sysem a fair bit. Docked. St outside the space station for some time, but still no Wolf!

Can someone please tell me how to find it?

Thanks,
Lee

Hint: An Advanced Space Compass could help you out there.

Thanks LittleBear,

I thought that might help. I don't seem to be able to toggle my compass using the "\" key though. Should it be this key?

What should the action be called in the keyconfig file?

Thanks for your help,

Lee

I had to remap mine too, as \ didn't seem to be picked up in-game on my laptop. Personally I use "x" as it's nicely convenient and thus-far unused.

The keyconfig.plist key you want is "key_next_compass_mode".

The plist you want is keyconfig.plist, which resides in oolite.apps/config. Personally I just made a back-up copy of it and then editted that one, as even I can find and replace "\" with "x"

Thanks Thargoid,

I've remapped and can toggle compass modes now :D

However all I can see on the compass are the witchspace beacon, nav bouy, planet and sun.

I still can't find the Wolf!

Any more hints please?

Two questions would be are you sure you actually accepted the mission (sorry to ask the obvious, but it's worth double-checking on the manifest F5 screen) and how long did it take you to get to Reinen? Did you go directly or dawdle along the way?

Hi Thargoid,

Valid questions. Yeah the mission's still on my manifest screen when I press F5... one plus point of a this searching... I've just seen my firt Deep Space Dredger!

Anyway, back to the Wolf. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Lee

Sory, forgot to say, I went straight Reinen, no dawdling!

Found it!!! :D

I reloaded my old commander saved before accepting the mission. Then jumped back into Reinen.

When I toggled the compass, a "K" was displayed! And off I went to find my prey 8)

The problem must have been caused by my docking before toggling the compass previously. It didn't display a "K" on the compass afer docking in Reinen. Silly me! Sorry

At least I got to see a dredger on my travels... now maybe for another Navy mission!

Do you also knew that Reinen also is featured in the famous planets OXP?
