Greetings all ,

Having read the posting from Pangloss in the " Replacing Con-store" thread, has given me an idea.

Would it be possible to have a means of recording times in a given set route with racing rings?
If so, I would love the idea of having a sort of official race league here on the boards. I know there would have to be certain ground rules in place here, but I think this would produce some fun competition, having things like-

The Classic cup.

The Cobra trophy.

The Vector Supercup.

to name just a few.

So..., as the subject title states, is this a new sport?

Is this a completed OXP in relation to player ships yet, or is it still resticted to NPC only?

I'm asking coz the thread seems to be a few months old now, and I hope it hasn't been left and forgotten.
As a bit of a petrol head meself, it would be great to see a times leaderboard here on the ...erm... boards.

I'm a massive racing fan. I play a lot of racing games (GTR2, GTR-Evolution., TDU, GRID, Trackmania). It would be very nice to have a space race so may I propose:

Real life variant Oolite variant

Oval racing like Indy 500 Planetary orbit like the Zaonce 5 orbits
Circuit racing racing through rings
rally race from Coriolis to Coriolis
endurance 24hr Multiple system race
demolition derby Oolite survival race (shooting allowed)

It would be very nice if someone could build a racing 'engine' for Oolite

Indeed it would be also nice to have class variants such as:

Cobra MK1 cup
Sidewinder witch point classic
Python Galaxy 1 endurance
Spaceway L1 & L2 rally

What if you could make OXP uber-ships for this - but you have to be able to make the turns at .999 ls?

Already there in RS/OSE. The Interstellar class of ships already does that and demanding to take an aimed short turn through a ring in one would be quite a challenge.

The problem is, that any player with a ship you can afford during the first three real-life years of gameplay would have no chance at all against the possible NPC contenders ...

But then, you could implement leagues, starting with the 0.3 LS range league up to the "Interstellar League" in the 0.9 LS range to have comparable speeds amongst contenders.

Now you just have to find something who writes you a racing oxp
