Remove spamming from cloaked ships

Hi,
when targeting a cloaked ship, the screen gets spammed and there's an really annoying sound, because the system locks-on and off multiple times per second. Maybe this could be changed into preventing a lock-on completely?
Still, I'd really like an additional panel as the comm log for messages - and thus taking away the messages out of my sights. It's almost as bad as with trumbles sometimes...

This is already raised in berlios as: [ Bug #13791 ] Ident system on a cloakship causes a flood of HUD messages
I am not sure what the correct behaviour should be though, if there is a consensus reached here, then I think it should be do-able to change.

I'll suggest this behaviour:
When the player ship looses it's lock because the target ship cloaks, the player gets 1 'target lost message' on the HUD and it's up to the player to re-align the target ship in his/her crosshair and re-press the 'y' key to get another target lock if they want one

That makes sense Griff, I second that.

I'm just curious, is this ship supposed to be the "stealth" ship from the C64 version,.... ?
Because I fought the bastard On the c 64, appearently as one of select few, only with a pulse laser, as I had spend all my money on a round trip of all the galaxies (including the military laser traded for a pulse laser)... so I missiled him when he went beneath me...
BUT: my point, the ship was not cloaked, it was a stealth ship, it means it was full visible when in view... but did not show up on scanner..
I cant recall if I got a cloaking device succeeding , I properly didn't notice if i got it...
If this is not that very ship, I would suggest to add that mission in another thread...
Only downside is, I cannot find any pictures of it, but the cougar is a contender... as it looks very similar... however it had antennas, like the krait has

I had some good pictures of it...but lost them when I gave back my books at school. Some lousy-quality pictures I do still have, and as I understand it, the cougar here in the game shall resemble it - but looks different. From the upside, similar, yes. Some years later I read in some magazine about it and it was called cougar there, too. I even fought that ship twice - first time noone believed me, thus I took the save file and tried again and again until I encountered it once more, paused, called a friend and had him catch the bus in order to be witness
Although many of my friends did play that game, none of them did encounter this ship. It was good that I called him, otherwise they'd probably sent me to hospital for hallucinating
It's laser-power was enormous...instant "energy low".

I thought a little about it...maybe the ship could be equipped with MASC. I'm not so sure if it would be a good idea to give the player scanner filtering initially...but maybe more than one of those ships could be encountered and after the first one the navy does some research and equips the player with the scanner filter in order to hunt down the other (or remaining) ships of that type. Equipping the player with MASC doesn't appear to be such a good idea to me, for as long as it does not need activation and drains energy, as it is practically a missile-jammer for the player (while behaving differently for NPC ships).
Could very well fit into galactic navy oxp as another special operation?
Anyway, I believe the cloak mission could also be blown up to be much more...but that most probably would be something for the storywriters here...
