I am trying to put the .oxp file in the AddOns folder as the wiki says to, but i am being told i do not have the permissions. Odd when I am the administartor ad all that. It has not once asked for a password of any kind, i am definitely the admin and the game is installed systemwide (so i believe). It is the random hits OXP 1.3 beta I am trying to use - first OXP.
HELP!

Found out how to sort this little problem out.
Apparently, must go in as root, rather than administrative user. Unlike windows, there are precautions to slow down your system s#!@ing. I found this site which told me how to access root through the terminal, whilst being user, to temporarily be allowed permission to dump OXPs and the like into the AddOns folder. For beginner users like myself, it is useful.
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/permissions explains it all nicely, but also, the command you really need is:
hit Alt + F2, and in the opening box type "gksudo nautilus" and hit enter. enter your password, and you shall be placed into a folder as root admin. From there, do what you must, but once that folder closes, you are normal user again.
Yet another question answered by Google - why couldn't they do this so simply for muddy Microsoft?

I normally just run a terminal and then:
enter my password and voila - I can do anything I want at the command level from this terminal - although rm -r * is not recommended at this point...

Just to check, you do have at least version 1.72.1 of Oolite? Random Hits will only run on this version even if it's installed correctly. Basiclly copying the folder called RandomHits275.oxp (or whatever version number you have) to AddOns should do it. If you've made the AddOns folder yourself, it has to be case wise exactly AddOns. Easyist way to test the that Oolite it reading your OXP path would be to put in the CustomSounds OXP. Fire-up and are you getting new sounds for your hyperspace coundown if so at least you know the OXP path is being read.

Does that exist yet for Linux? I thought the latest version of that was still 1.72?
