Finally got some screen shots. I "borrowed" Wyverns dragon for a size comparison. I think it's working out quite well. (I do have to optimize the texture, sort the turrets, write the ship list maybe put together a couple of other passes). Design wise though I think it's there.

Nice - looking forward to seeing it fully skinned.

Why does this thing remind me of a Klingon ship?

Yeah, I'm working on that. I'm just struggling with game balance at the moment. I can't really justify a ship with this much fire power shielding and maneuverability and it have any cargo space what so ever.

I think I can get away with about 30-36 before people start going. WTF? (plus a cheeky 10 cargo extension).

Maybe I'll just make it insanely expensive and a stupid high tech level.
On the other hand, it's probably going to be the last thing I ever fly in this game so maybe if I'm honest, I'm making it for me. It's one of those making your own light sabre moments.

I suppose it depends what you want out of oolite really, some love the struggle and the stats trade off. Others just want to fly into a space battle with all the impunity of the devil himself.

bit of bird of prey, bit of liberator, the nostromo landing gear, lexx sensor array. Bit of this, bit of that. You know how it goes. :)

Nice ship. Borrows some elements from the SR71 Blackbird or other Steath planes 8) Especially the black hull plating. (makes it difficult to see with the naked eye)

Just my 0.02 Cr for the Uber ship thought you had.

I think the whole discussion about the question if a ship is uber or not as such is besides the point.

As a already decades-long D&D player and master I have observed that something is uber if it`s one-of-its-kind and nothing can stand against it.

Something is not uber if it a) comes for a price and b) the "others" (NPCs) have it too.

Translated into Oolite it means the following:

If you play a Cobra MkIII and everyone else (NPC-wise) is in something basically equivalent a Cobra MkIII, a Behemoth is an Uber ship. If you play a Behemoth in a world of Cobra MkIII' s, you are playing with an Uber ship.

If you payed through your nose for the Behemoth, though, after three years of real-time playing Oolite in a Cobra MkIII, and you are not the only Behemoth in there, but one of many, you are not playing an Uber ship.

I would be happy if a consent could arise that if something is an Uber ship as such or not arises from a context!

In the context of original Elite a lot of designs, presumably also yours, would have been uber, but there were no Behemoths, no Benulobiweed ships, no Tigers and Imperial Couriers, heck, there were even no other ships to be bought at all!

So I`d suggest you look for it that your ship has enemies that can still counter its presumed super-powers and it will not be Uber. If it`s thought to be the retirement present of an Elite veteran to himself, it should be something that behaves like an iron ass to an iron ass

So much for game balance, cheers

It is a sad fact that, startrek took sleek and star wars took clunky, single handedly making the job of ship design and texturing that much more difficult for generations to come. Star trek uses a lot of delta sweeps in it's craft, some might say over uses. Boldly go = delta. Feds put the saucer on their delta, klingons put weapons. They act as cultural short hand.

My original idea was to distort the middle section of Blakes 7 Liberator, as I really liked that ship. Some where along the way it turned into a klingon, liberator, lexx in a blender cross breed. We are all victims of cutural absorbtion endlessly recombining the meme's that impress us.

I like to think it has enough variation to make it interesting whilst retaining enough of the familiar to appeal to a wide audience.

Stats and story are getting there maybe another week?

Making fun of a dyslexic when he's away from his spell checker. Tisk tisk. Mind you I routinely kick quadriplegics out of their wheelchairs, then perform intricate tap dancing routines round their partially flailing bodies, whilst shouting "Look at me! Look at me! I can do this!"

So I suppose this is karmic whiplash. :-)

Right on to the turrets.
