No sound, no start?

Hi everyone,
this is my stderr file, I'm presuming this is to do with my rubbish onboard sound (Realtek) which refuses to work short of a complete reinstall of windows & everything else.

Is there a way to bypass this?

Greetings and an alien welcome
First question, are you trying to start Oolite via the batch file in the c:\program files\Oolite (RunOolite.bat) or directly via the executable (oolite.exe in the oolite.app folder in the above directory)?
If the latter, then you need to use the batch file to start things off. It sets a number of paths for the GNUStep useage, which from your log file doesn't seem to be happening at the moment. Depending on whether it guesses them correctly (which is unlikely, given you're having folders created) then that's likely to be at least part of the problem.
Try clicking on "RunOolite.bat" instead and see if that gives you any different results, for either the initial "not set" errors or the sound one and report back

There’s a fix for this bug in the Linux build of Oolite 1.72, but not the Windows one, because it came in at the last minute. This should be fixed for 1.72.1 – “fixed” meaning you’ll get no sound but the game will run.

Of all the audio chipsets to put onboard, the Realteks are total suckalicious junk. Phooey!!
Here's a simple fix you'll appreciate, but you'll need to dig some change out of your acceleration couch.
Set course for the nearest computer or eletronics store, and get ahold of a Soundblaster card. One of the older Live series will do, they're cheap and work great, and are compatible with nearly everything. You'll be glad you did.

Greetings indeed, and all Hail the Master! *Kneels in Cobra cockpit knocking coffee off the arm and banging head on the walnut dashboard*
Thanks for the suggestion Thargoid, same reaction unfortunately but the stderr was different..?

Means owt to me.
I'll be getting a decent(ish) card for recording purposes soon so it's whichever comes first I suppose, unless you have any other suggestions?
Played this game over a year ago and retextured all the ships (including other peoples oxp's, I was going to ask their permissions to post the alternative designs), my hard-drive had ideas of its own unfortunately
I was also going to bump down the regularity of the core boats appearing and oxp the variations of each so their population was about the same.
I got to around 120 repaints (including new looks for the core stations and asteroids) when they were all lost to the void forever.
Kind of got distracted by other games after that, then stumbled across this little gem again the other day.
Progress is looking realy cool, definately liking the shaders.
Edit:
Hello Cmdr Wyvern, guess I spent too long trying to remember how many paint jobs I did. Yes Realtek were apparently a very good company in the past, but these driver issues are just ignorance, plain and simple.

*sigh* Now look what you did, you got me started.
The driver issues are ALL the fault of one evil malicious band of criminals, that's right, Microsoft. They demanded that all the hardware manufactures comply to that 1000 TC load of DRM infested bovine fertilizer known as Vista. Then Microslop demanded that all driver support for XP be dropped.
The result, especially with the economic meltdown hitting, was total chaos.
I know, I know, but no hardware maker can be blamed for this mess. Getting anything to work with Microslop's buggy DRM riddled treacle requires the luck of a whole planet of Irish, plus miracles donated from every deity in all 8 galaxies, and it would still be mind boggling if it works at all, much less reliably.
Thankfully, if you google hard enough, drivers for XP can still be found.
End of story: Microslop has much to answer for, they are the vilest, most despicable beings in the universe. And if you ever offer me vista, I shall kill you. </rant>
But seriously though, I don't like doing tech support where the customer brings me a machine infected with vista.

This particular message is harmless.

@Ahruman, thanks
@Cmdr Wyvern, I suppose that sounds about right, it certainly wouldn't be out of character, I'll have a bit of a scout in a mo. Didn't come across any advice mentioning that at all whilst groping for why the damned thing wouldn't spark, just seems there's a hundred different angles to try, which I did for two days before I gave up.
Hope you feel better

You don`t happen to have, coincidentally, the Trident Down oxp running under Oolite 1.72, ZygoUgo, no?
