Oolite Ships log?

Question.

Would it be possible, either by OXP or in some other way, to make Oolite produce a log-file that contains stuff like visited system, market prices in visited systems, goods bought and sold, kills, etc.

I would have thought that any advanced space ship would have this and it would be great to be able to go back and see what you paid for stuff and what ships you have killed and all missions done (big and small).

Any thoughts.

Edited to add: Or you could take screen shots and save them as image files (which could be printed and inserted into a 3-ring binder).

But that would require coming in contact with the out side world! I'm scarred!

Good reply. LOL

Although I think I will pop into the nearest Tesco(o) if I need writing supplies and paper.
Still believe it would be a good idea, and even better if you could choose what to log and look at the log inside the game.

Why don't you just use apple works or pages or what ever linux has?

Use Vista, and to be honest, not quite sure what you mean and how. If any of these programs actually interface (sounds too strange to be true) with Oolite, I would have thought it would be mentioned in this forum somewhere. Would be nicer if this was auto generated. But, if the log is not there, it won't stop me playing.

Ship Log

I created an excel spread sheet with 6 rows visible that sat at the bottom of the screen when docked. It showed the min, max and average on the first 3 lines and the last 3 planets visited on the next 3. After logging about 250 planets it became tedious. I now just have a wee bit of paper with the mins max and average. Also use a wee note pad for any really interesting places.

Just to repeat myself: Keeping track of market prices is a tedious exercise, and useless too. The prices have a random component, and will not be the same when you return to a system later.

And you can look up the averages on the Oolite Reference Sheet, without calculating them yourselves.

A flightlog of visited places exists. It is written in the first part of your save-file, together with a log of all communications you had. Just open your save-file with a text editor, and everything is there. No need to re-invent the wheel.

And the last few lines of it are always displayed in Oolite's communications-window, which opens by itself each time anything new is written in the log. It also can be opened by hand through a keypress (look into the readMe for the default). However, for some technical reasons the last entries are not loaded again into the window if you restart the game. But still they are there in your savefile.
