So i was talking with a friend early today and we decided that there was a few faults with the whole escpae pod item...

first off whats the point you might as well reload spair the 1k creds and lose of cargo and move on...

secondly by the time you know to hit the esc buttion i am usealy already blown to kingdom come

so i have two questions...is there anyway to implement any penitly for death....so escape pods would thus have usefullness and is there anyway to mabey make escape pods auto activate...thus atleast helping immursion so i dont get blown up befor my finger is half way to the esc key

Eject earlier! No seriously - in Elite/Oolite (if it was "real") - you're supposed to climb from your cockpit to the pod itself - grabbing your Remlok on the way past - therefore the second or so it takes to moves to the Esc key is short by comparison! I use a analogue gamepad and I have eject on one of the keys - so that helps!

When I used to play on the C64 - once I'd reached Elite I started again and would create a new pilot each time one died - it's hard to get beyond dangerous this way - on some days it was hard to get beyond harmless!

What's the point? Well, yes, you can reload, but to some folks that's just cheating. I admit to being one of those who plays my characters as 'real' - if they are killed, they are killed (unless the game crashed). So far, none have made it to 'Elite' on 'Oolite' if that makes sense! I have two at 'dangerous' and one at 'deadly'.

And, as the Daddy said - eject earlier! If you're down to your last energy bank - it's time to hit ESC!

Cheers,

Drew.

I -could- be barking up the wrong tree here, but I seem to remember that buying an Escape Pod -replaces- the cockpit section of your Cobra MkIII in original Elite.

Ah, I was correct:
Escape capsule
An escape capsulle can be fitted in place of your cabin at any world of Tech level 6 or higher.
(My emphasis)

Oh dont get me wrong your talking to someone who used to play diablo 2 on hardcore....it was mearly a conversation i had and figured i would share with the board...i think it would be cool if like you could buy some kinda of eq that would auto eject when you hit a sertian energy level though...

Na fraid not, didn't even buy one for the new ship, bit like the sailors of old, most of them couldn't swim! But then they didn't have the option to reload. But ye the auto eject wouldn't be too bad an idea. Every time I've been blasted I've been too busy to look at the energy level never mind remember where I left the escape pod after the last overhaul!
