You may guess from the topic's name. 
Probably the 1.71.n problem of ships on the opening screen being too dark with shaders turned on.
Worked around in 1.72.

indeed.
aiming for a black ship against a black background was proving to be a real test for 'the force.'
i turned shaders down, thinking it was my 'puter, but are you saying it'll work on 1.72?
