New gfx card install under Ubuntu - what to do?

I've got the chance to replace my nvidia FX5900 128MB card with a 256MB FX5950 Ultra only thing is I don't know what Ubuntu (7.10) running nvidia restricted drivers does when it encounters a change of gfx card and I'd like to know before I make the change.

I know I may get useful advice from the Ubuntu Forums but I thought I'd get sensible, friendly advice from here first!

Machine is actually dual boot XP/Ubuntu but I can handle the XP side!

TIA

I'd suggest uninstalling the nvidia drivers before shuting down with the old card. Then shutdown and swap cards, then reboot and install the drivers again.

NVidia does have a unified driver architecture, which is supposed to mean a single driver for cards, but it's probably better to be safe than sorry!

Cheers,

Drew.
