I'm an Oolite noob. I have installed vers 1.71.2. I've also installed the System Redux.oxp for the beautiful planets. But my ships and stations look nothing like these? http://developer.berlios.de/screenshots/?group_id=3577

Can someone help point me in the right direction?

Firstly it'll depend on the kit you're running Oolite on, especially the graphics card (and drivers thereof). If it's capable, the switching on of shaders will also make things look nicer (so I hear, my laptops can't cope with them  ).

For the latter, when docked go to the game options (under the F2 screen on a PC), or when in space pause the game ("P") and then likewise.

Sung's Detailed textures will help with the ships.
P.A. Groove Stations OXP with help with the stations.

Personally I also use Random Hits, FighterHUD and Your Add Here.

Enjoy

Pent 4 3.0 w/ ht
2 Gig RAM
ge Force 6800 128mb

She's getting a little older, but I believe it should support the shaders used

I'd say have a look and see... And also even if it supports them, make sure they're turned on ;)

Thanks for the suggestions, with the plethora of OXPs out there it's hard to know which ones are the "base" ones to install.

I installed both the Sung's textures and the Grove Stations and it makes a big difference! I still haven't been able to turn on the shaded planets because I think it's disabled in 1.71.2 from what I've read?

If you are referring to the procedurally textured planets, then yes, they are disabled by default in 1.71.2. But you have two options: a) Install the System Redux OXP (excellent alternative) or b) build Oolite with -DALLOW_PROCEDURAL_PLANETS in the ADDITIONAL_OBJCFLAGS section of the GNUmakefile. Then, pause during flight and press 'T' to activate them.
