My generous bug

Hello there,
I have just docked in to Laenin station and received message from the Imperial Navy, like they will need me etc. They granted 256 kills for me, wich is cool but takes the fun out of the game...
I have Black Monks, Random Hits, Realistic Shipyards and the necessary oxp's for it installed. I have also installed some shaders ans stations.
Anybody else experineced something similar? Any ideas? Should I reinstall all of my oxp's?

Sounds like the Constrictor Hunt, one of the few built-in missions. It’s just about the only mission that awards a big bunch of kills like that, but it’s canonical (i.e., it was in one or more of the official versions of Elite).

Did you get the kills with a message of congratulations? If you killed the Constrictor, thats what is meant to happen. You are promoted to Dangerous for killing that bad boy. However Realistic Shipyards has a bug whereby the Constrictor is added as a general pirate rather than as a one off special ship. So if an NPC kills the Clone from Realistic Shipyards, you get the message and reward.

Thank you guys for the quick help!
Yes, it was some kind of a congratulations message but I don't know why since I did not kill anybody. In fact I had zero kills yet.
So, it looks like some sort of Realistc Shipyard bug... I have to live with it. I shall reinstall it just in case.
Thanks again!

Must have been the constrictor that was killed by something else. However, still strange. With Oolite 1.71+ there is a special check if the killer of the constrictor is the player and this congratulations message should not happen when not killed by the player, even when RS puts a copy of this missionship in the ooniverse.
Random hits needs 1.70+ so I assume you use that Oolite version and not 1.71?

When you have zero kills you probably are still in a very save system with a lot of police. In such a system it is even more likely that the police kills a pirate.

That's has happened to me, 2 or 3 times, and I use a mac! So it is a mac and a pc bug! Isn't that just great?

Well, yes. OXP-related bugs that happen only on a give OS are much more problematic.

I play 1.71.2. Is that all right? Or should I switch to older version?

The Bug is with Realistic Shipyards OXP rather than Oolite itself. It'll keep happening unless you remove Realistic Shipyards OXP. Or fix Realistic Shipyards by removing the Constrictor Clone from its shipdata.plist. Reinstalling Realistic Shipyards won't help as the bug is in Realistic Shipyards code. You'll also need to edit your save file to reset the Constrictor Mission as you won't now be able to play it. Random Hits requires 1.71.2.

How can I remove the Constrictor clone from the plist? Should I download some kind of plist editor?

Standard Note Pad will be fine. Just open it and search for the Constrictor (using the find function). Delete the whole entry then exit and save. First time you load up Oolite keep the SHIFT key held down until you see the rotating cobra so that the changes you've made are updated.

Even more detailed than Little Bear`s instruction, perhaps you want to have a look here:

@Lestrade. If you are going to disable the death_actions on the Constrictor clone, you might want to add a condition that the clone only appears after the mission is complete. Its quite a hunt to find the Constrictor in the mission and players playing the mission may otherwise come accoss the "fake" constrictor and be confused when shooting down the fake one doesn't complete the mission. Although its a rare pirate its "sod's law" that it'll appear when the player is on the trail of the mission ship!
