I
considered this when the SDK came out, but decided it wasn’t all that good an idea. Oolite is too big and needs too many buttons, and you wouldn’t be able to use OXPs.

I would not want it, even if i got it for free.. VGA camera.. 8 GB, only 3G,("the first had not even 3G).. i want Turbo-3G.
Shortage of programs availeble.. 5000 Danish currency for binding yourself for 6 months.. for a basicly crap phone, battery only lasts a day if you use it much for internet.. my current phone can last 3-4 days, on one charge while i use it for internet... and to top that, you cant change the battery, like you can for Nokia and Sony Ericson..
And finally, it looks like a cheap LG prada Copy
Being that, it will be for what we in denmark call Pop-boys and Pop-Girls..., a lifestyle phone that screams "LOOK what i can afford", while really most of them can´t.. they other day i heard this Girl in the bus, i was forced to use the bus, since I leant to the car to my sisters husband.
But this girl was somewhere between 17-19, she complained about that she had no money, she was not exactly silent, next thing, her phone beeps, since she got a SMS.. up the pocket comes an Iphone...
Right!!!!....
EDIT:, btw i might be spoiled in regard to Turbo 3g, since i had a socalled "3" phone for some time now, and all of Denmark is Coverd with Turbo 3G

To clarify: a simplified Elite-like game on the iPhone would be possible, but it’d have to be player-centric and remove some of the controls. The graphics code would also have to be a lot more optimized than Oolite’s (not using vertex buffers isn’t even an option in OpenGL|ES). I don’t think Oolite would be all that helpful as a starting point, except as a source of graphics and sounds.

When CP released E:TNK, somebody converted CPs conversion to Java - I downloaded it but I only had a 266Mhz Dell laptop at the time and it played incredibly slowly - about 1/3rd to 1/2 the speed TNK on the same machine - so out there somewhere is a Java version of Elite (which of course formed the basis of Oolite).
I no longer have the source/exe because it was a work laptop from when I worked at the MOD and when I left (even though it was 10 years old, wouldn't run off the battery, rebooted every 15 minutes and the screen used to randomly flake-out, they took it back).
I'm currently waiting for my wife's new SE C902 to set itself up as a Mas Storage device under Ubuntu 7.10, her old K800i used to do it in about 10 seconds, my W200i does it in about 20s, this C902 has been buzzing and flickering for about 10 minutes now and its my 2nd attempt (I had to unplug and take the battery out last time as it latched up and refused to turn off). She wants Simcity (Java) put back on it (which is why I mention it because some games do convert to java/mobile phone use rather well)

A Java version would be of zero use on the iPhone, though. :-)

You're kidding right? No Java on the iphone?! The more I hear about it the more I'm convinced its style over content - other than having a nice gui (for those who like it) and typical "neat" Apple styling (if you like that kind of thing) does it actually have anything going for it?

There's always Elite for the Pocket PC,
http://www.eliteppc.com/
I play that a lot on my T-Mob Vario II.
(just wish I could put Oolite in my pocket)

Nope its not even up for download, only a ship database stand alone program..
The reason why its not up for download
"
Pocket PC Elite is a remake of the original Elite series of games, to which there are several copyright holders. Negotiations are underway to obtain permission from the copyright holders to distribute the game. Once all the legal considerations have been resolved, we will be happy to provide Pocket PC Elite for web distribution."

PocketPC caused The Breadbin to get out of his pram and resulted in TNK being pulled.
