Does anyone else ram other ships?

Sometimes when I'm in a bit of a dogfight and there's some Mamba or Sabre that's wiggling around to much to shoot, I just push the throttle up to the max and ram them - often resulting in their destruction.
Does anyone else do this, or am I the only one?

Reduce speed to let them about 1 click away, then the ai tells them to stop wiggeling, and they are easy pickings...
and because of that, i never ram

I have a pcc, And I love that ram scoop! I use it very often. It is a nice little feature to any ship.

The last time I tried that it was against another CobraMkIII after taking out 2 pirates I went to line myself up with the third and last one, only to find that he was heading straight at me with his injectors on..it totaled both of us.

I ram boulders!
Now I've got a mil laser at front and back, the mining laser has to go on one side. Using it to break up asteroids into boulders is fine, but if I break them up to splinters, they're floating off all over the place by the time I line up with them.
I discovered by accident that bumping into a boulder will smash it up into splinters, with a good chance of my fuel scoops scooping them all up in one go. I don't know if it costs more in damage than I earn from the sales though... but it certainly saves time!

I don't think you earn a kill for a ramming

But it is certainly seen as an offence. I just rammed a police viper to death. Suddenly all other police turned their lasers to me. A fast glance on the F5 screen showed I now was fugitive. It was clean before the ramming.

You get credit for the kill in 1.65. As a matter of fact, that's how I killed the constrictor! I didn't plan it that way, it just sorta happened

Same thing happened for me with the constrictor too! Well... he rammed me and came off worse!

i think you get the award for the contrictor kill, no matter what, because its triggerd when the constrictor explodes... so in the odd chance that an NPC killed the contstrictor, that will only spawn near the player, the player will still get the reward.... which is 256 kills, and i think 5000 credits

It doesn't need even spawn near the player. The constrictor has a high bounty on its head. Any police or bounty hunter that spots it, is likely to go after it. Only since the 1.71 release a trick is used to make it clean when the player is not nearby

Looking for information for the
Oolite Tactics wiki page!
* Are there any tactical points of importance regarding ramming other ships?
* Does one score a "kill" by doing so?
* Rammee: Does one's victim
have to be smaller and more weedy? Are there exceptions to the rule?
* Shields: Does one need to first invest in EEU/Shield Booster/Naval Grid
etc.?
* Ships: Does flying a Pitviper with sharpened pointy bits help? Are there other good ships for this?

Yes, I used to try this, with often disastrous results. You need to learn which are the lightweight ships that can safely be rammed.
I suppose a javascript could compare PS.energy with PS.target.energy and issue an appropriate warning.

But is that really
all that is involved? So all that guff on the
PitViper wiki page about
sharpness and
hardened hull is complete and utter baloney?
