Modifying ships that already exist

Is it possible to make slight modifications to ships that already exist rather than just retexturing them. I'm surmising that the conversion to the .dat file used ingame precludes any backwards reloading into something like Wings3d or am I mistaken?

TIA

John

If you look at the source, theres a folder with unconverted mesh files of all the stock models. Can't check this atm as i'm on the ps3 (hense the short posts) but i'll have a look in a bit...

there's a Dat2ObjTex.py python script that will take a .dat file and convert it to a .obj file - it keeps the texture UV's and everything!
you can download it here:
http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/ool ... onverters/
I found the link in a post Kaks made in the 'New Model Utilities' thread at the top of this forum

Thanks guys - if my 1 yr old hadn't just woken up for a feed I'd be investigating it right now - but at least now I know where to look!

As I thought, if you look in the Asset Source folder in the Trunk, you will find mesh files and graffle files (don't ask me if this is of any use as I'm not a modeller, sorry!)

Probably you could use DryDock as well. It has a couple of "save as"-options.

A long tie ago I was told DryDock was mac only - has this changed?

Probably not. I am on a Mac and find it useful (although it has its limitations). But yes, may still be a Mac-only thing.

Sorry for the rest of the world! :(
