OXP's in Kubuntu Hardy

Hi,

I've been through the thread on OXP's in Ubuntu 7.04. Nothing works. At least, I don't think it does. I hold down the shift key whilst starting Oolite and nothing is listed.

Its late I'm getting incredibly grumpy :-(

Can anyone tell me how to do it in Kubuntu?

Thanks,

Paul

Check out this thread: https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?t=4615 and this thread https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?t=2928

I had similar problem (Ubuntu 7.04 and the 7.10).

if you run Oolite from the command line (where ever the executable may be stored) using this:

Code: Select all

./oolite 2>> oolite_stderr.txt &
Then you can go through the generated textfile and check where the OXPs are being searched for as can be seen in this snippet from mine:
2008-06-03 22:36:44.892 oolite[8707] Failed to recurse into directory 'AddOns' - No such file or directory
2008-06-03 22:36:44.893 oolite[8707] [searchPaths.dumpAll]: ---> OXP search paths:
("/home/john/Oolite-dev/1.71-maintenance/oolite.app/Resources", AddOns, "/home/john/.Oolite/AddOns", "/home/john/Oolite-dev/1.71-maintenance/oolite.app/Resources/Lave.oxp")
2008-06-03 22:36:44.893 oolite[8707] [dataCache.rebuild.pathsChanged]: Cache is stale (search paths have changed). Rebuilding from scratch.

Since this I have actually moved the OXPs to the /home/john/.Oolite/AddOns directory as Ahurman's suggestion.

(Of course all this is based on the fact that I installed locally and not as root)

Hope this helps!

EDIT: Some of my text somehow got caught up in the extract of my stderr file - apologies for any confusion!

Thanks very much, I can see it is loading in the additional ships now :-) I have had a couple of trips but have yet to see any - its the StarWars ship pack.

TTFN!

Excellent!

Ships you want to see are never there when you want them to be.

Follow the back end of this thread for some hints and tips on seeing what you want:

Failing that - if you've got some time - just watch the pre-game start screen (after the Cobra MkIII) and the game while cycle through all the in game entities including those in your newly installed OXP (or should if the OXP is written properly).

HTH.

:-) Properly? I'm never ever using the demoships.plist. :-) So you won't see them on this (starting) screen. A player has seen them already on the WIKI and normally she/he will load a saved game instead of cycling through the ship demoscreen...

Maybe I should think about it to make it properly? :-)

@Svengali - I did think that some oxp'ers might not bother but lots do - there was always a chance that the particular oxp in question did indeed have the correct plist...
