Noobie feedback on 1.71.1

Have spent far too many days on 1.65 since finding it in November. An amazing voyage i can tell you.

On advice from the forum, decided to install 1.71.1, start afresh from Galaxy 1 with a clean slate and a lot more experience under my belt, looking forward to revisiting the missions where i dropped an energy bomb instead of blasting away at my target.

Anyway,

In short few hours after install have observed the following:
- even without loading oxp's i still managed to launch straight into the back of another ship. at least 3 times, nothing i could do
- having tried to jump to leesti or similar nearby system, have went into witchspace and been almost pulverised. Thargoid ships just seem to blow the hell out of each other and the new behemoth is not dockable (graphics go crazy on trying before 'boom')
- loading sound set oxp just results in the sounds not playing properly. For instance when lasers overheating, it attempts to make the 'overheating' announcement, just as the next laser beep takes place and you dont really get the desired affect of either sound file.
- with oxp's loaded. (behemoth spacewar didn't work) didn't make a single jump without 'Tiger' Krait kicking my unfortunate under equipped head in.

This was only a few hours in my new ship (custom views are nice) and I actually didn't even make it anywhere for a new save point - very frustrating !!!!

Back to 1.65 for me i think !!!!

Sorry to interrupt, but you could help me very much by answering a simple question with yes or no:

Did you have Realistic Shipyards in when the Behemoth thing happened?

... and if you could find the time, how exactly did the graphics go "crazy"? What did they do?

Thanks in advance for your answer

About the tiger kraits, they show up in about half the systems, but only after you make a certain number of kills (let me check.... yep, you need to have made at least 30 kills before the tiger gang shows any interest in you, at least if you got it from Hotrods. If you got that from another oxp, your mileage may vary.

Tiger gang survival tactics:
As long as you have fuel injectors & look at the screen for hints like 'easy tiger, etc' it should be fairly easy to run to the nearest station before they do too much damage. Of course, since they tend to camp in front of the station waiting for you, you will have to use fuel injectors when leaving the station too... :)
edit: after meeting them about 10 times they won't hassle you anymore

No - to Realistic Shipyards.

Crazy - is in, didn't get the docking portal, just say through the ship, general problems with rendering of graphics followed by the obvious, Game over.

That was another point.

On each occasion after i died, it went back to the standard jameson profile, even though the game had been stopped and I had loaded my own LAVE fresh save state.

About going back to the standard jameson profile after game over, that seems to be a very unpopular change.

It's likely to change back to loading the last save game automatically in the fairly near future!

Some of the issues may already be fixed in 1.71.2. Would you try that out as well?

have already downloaded the .1 to .2 update zip file.
Assuming this is a straight forward job.

Clocked in a few hours last night and managed to get for a spin.

The planet did however disappear on one of my jumps to a system.
Having 'took my eye off the ball' while I 'assisted' someone in peril - i turned back to the planet to find it had been totally blown away....

... And not a death star in sight

now THERE's an OXP waiting to be written ..............

Hmmm. That sounds unlike anything I have ever encountered after 1.65 (also your feedback on 1.71.1). Can't explain it.

What is your system configuration, by the way? And do you see any strange activity in your logfile?

The planet disappearing is a known problem of the Windows version and it happens when the game window gets resized and the planet is at the highest level of detail. Switching to/from fullscreen/window has the same effect.

Problems with resizing the game window have existed since at least version 1.65. In 1.65 the planet does not disappear, but all the textures get messed up after a resize.
