I'm not sure what the latest version of Debug console is, but I'm running 1.5, and it won't connect with 1.77.1 .

Are you using the Test Release Configuration of 1.77.1? It won't work with the deployment release which is the standard download.

I can't see the windows executable there, only python scripts.

You can find the latest version of the debug console at Sourceforge. Link is http://sourceforge.net/projects/oolite- ... p/download
To run the console from the github files you will need to have Python installed, plus a few Python libraries (pyWin and Twisted if I recall correctly). The link above contains the same Python sources, plus the Windows pre-compiled executable you want.
